tales have spoken of the du lac family, and how each babe sired by its growing branches have all had their first weeps carried in the winds of the summer sea. born of the connection between a du lac lord and the traveling merchant daughter of a yi ti tradesman, vivienne was instantly rapt with all matters of life at court, bent on continuing the du lac name across each body touched by its swan ships.
due to the positioning of the summer isles, the small town of avalon, where the noble house of du lac had its roots, had easy access to the free cities and dorne, in particular. westerosi life was both a tale and a distant reality for vivienne, being fed stories of its many kings, rebellions, dragons in her youthโ all tales that would, inevitably, pique her ever-curious mind.
while much of her matriarchal side remains in the golden empire of yi ti, trading everything from livestock to textiles spun from their fibers, the du lacs main export is their trained abilities. it is well-known that the du lacs hail from long lines of former knights, those of which left old valyria long ago to establish their own rule elsewhere. branches of the du lac line are split between avalon and tyrosh, just across the summer sea. the current tyroshi reputation of being a sort of gathering hub for the known world's best mercenaries is, in part, thanks to the du lacs setting their sights upon private enterprises, rather than serving kings who do not see their abilities as nothing more than fodder for their petty wars.
as a child, she regularly spent time between the summer isles and tyrosh, with their household eventually joining the rest of their relatives in westeros due to growing business prospects in the realm.
vivi, while receiving the regular studies of a highborn girl, was never reared as a child who would eventually bear children of her own. of course, she was trained by many midwives and other medics who would show her the ropes of tending to a home, but her mind was always elsewhere. nevertheless, heirs of her own weren't important, so far as she remained staunch in her unmarried status and continued that streak of self-sovereignty. her real interest was on the tourney field, not with the fighters themselves, but with the up-and-close quality of their weaponry. thus, under the shade of night, she would sneak off to the in-house blacksmith, striking a deal to work, in secret, as their apprentice for exchanges of her own jewelry, wares, and fine fabrics for him to sell.
her skills operate under the name nimuรซ, a moniker etched in ancient folklore, one that immediately arises an air of mystery in its attachment. never does she meet her clients face-to-face, operating with well-paid middlemen and deliverers in between, while still maintaining that personal touch given to knights of the realm. it's not easy to replicate a work of nimuรซ, as each piece is inscribed with a phrase of protection from the specific tyroshi dialect of high valyrian, customized to its wielder, always in metal and never in wood.
for all intents and purposes, she operates the same as any highborn lady would, touring the lands in-between her work alongside her father and uncles as her chaperone, urging to join by their side in tourneys and other matters with metal involved.

hi all thank you so much for your patience w/ me here <3 aside from hectic life, i've been slowly dipping back into writing via being at my multi @maeistas but i will be here and finally working on that asoiaf / hotd / akotsk verse post for vivi :3 i hope you're all doing well!!!!!
hi, everyone โ there's a tw for pet death so please continue reading at your discretion but. as of a few hours ago i had to take my cat to the emergency vet for a blood clot that came out of nowhere, and ultimately lead to her heart failing and having to put her down. not many of you know my situation but i'm currently gearing up for a cross-country move in about 1.5 months and have had a really tight budget, as i'm already a food stamps recipient even with my full-time job. not really foreseeing any emergencies to this scale. she was a healthy cat, and even our vet said her case of heart failure usually goes undetectable until their last moments.
that all being said, her expenses are still being totaled as we just got home, but have been quoted anywhere from $500-$600 usd, that of which i can only partially front myself. if anyone could spare even a dollar, all of it would help. i can also do graphics commissions (examples @sniktgfx) or anything in that vein. even sharing would really help.
