Movement is arguably one of the single most important things a new player needs to learn. If you can’t move around like the big boys, the big boys will just keep effortlessly shooting you directly as you predictably walk into their rockets.

Why it matters?

This game is about speed, in less than ten seconds a person can capture a flag on some maps even if they are not the best of movers. At your worst, that 10 seconds can turn into forty seconds. If you blink fast enough, you’ll see the game end before you even know it with an overblown scoreline. The faster you move, the quicker you get to key armors. The quicker you get to the flag. The quicker you get to quad. Your on the other side of the map? Impossible to get to the powerup on time? Move better, you’ll be there with time to spare.

Moving good also makes you a harder target as you learn to dodge not by strafing but constantly air strafing in air.

The Mechanics

One of the saddest things about this movement mechanic in this game is that it is very difficult to word and explain with words. Here is a video that should give you a brief overview of what you can do with good movement and some inspiration, but the general rule of thumb is no one can help you but yourself. Some players start out with the worst movement but decent aim. Use what whatever advantage you have from other games if any. The movement will come with time. It may take a month. Two months. Three.
