i love reid as he is but imagine if he was a dude with an eidetic memory but of absolutely average level intelligence who has obscure knowledge about the most random things not because he can read thousand words per/min but because he keeps falling down research rabbit holes on the internet since studying doesn’t take up a lot of his time. most of the times he doesn’t even understand all the super science-y stuff but he remembers them exactly nonetheless even if he can’t make sense of it. he helps out in the BAU by sheer luck. he’ll drop a random trivia or something he read somewhere and be like “does that help? idrk :/” and the rest of the team are just standing there like aghast like. you literally solved the case. you watched us struggle with this for three days and you didn’t say anything? how the fuck do you even know this? and he’ll be like. one time i was riding the subway and i found an abandoned notebook and i was flipping through it because i didn’t have anything else to do and i was bored
