Can someone please explain to me why some people (over on Instagram is where I've been seeing it) dislike/hate Aidan's mods? I remember awhile back there was a lot of having going around about Tegan, but I didn't even know anything about her back then and nobody really ever explained it? And I guess some people dislike the others too? Is it just how you don't like some people and nothing deeper, or is there something else I am unaware of? I actually really like them?
Jealousy. They wanted to be mods. They thought it was unfair that they get to be close to Aidan. He chose them randomly btw.
I don’t think Tegan deserves hate, but she did “flirt” with Aidan a little bit and obviously liked him. She lives in Europe though so it’s not like he’d date her. They just hate Aidan hanging out with girls in general. They don’t want him to have a girlfriend which is ridiculous.

I will gladly elaborate.
I feel like most of complexity Five has now [at least in my mind, sorry] was given to him by this fandom. The head canons, fanfictions, analyses, detailed examination of every line and look and facial expression he did. This applies more to the Five’s side of fandom. [you know, us insane ones].
Why do I think he could fall flat in S3? Because as I said, creators gave him three characteristics [rudeness, violence, sarcasm] and did not develop him further. They essentially used him in both seasons as plot device. As a vehicle to move other characters from one place to another, to move plot from one point to another. In both seasons he faced the same problem → Doomsday/The End of The World. They simply can not afford to put him in the same position in S3. It started feeling repetitive in S2 already. Because he was what pushed the plot ahead, there was zero place for him as his own character. S1 nicely started unravelling him with that PTSD flashback, with Dolores, with that talk he had with Luther. And then they abandoned that. In regard to S2 Aidan said that: “ Him being with his siblings started turning his humanity back on.” but that was Aidan not the creators. [If I am mistaken, correct me.] Aidan also mentioned Five’s PTSD, creators did not. A lot of thanks should go to Aidan because his love for comics and Five caused the amazing portrayal he brings into the show and the details we pick up on. In S2 they had a lovely opportunity to let Five grow further and confront his past [the fact Handler was still around.] But his arc was essentially almost the same as in S1. Now, I don't think they can afford the Apocalypse scenario for the third time. Therefore, they could and should go in a more psychological direction. We have Reginald there alive and present → wouldn’t be surprised if he was the big bad wolf of S3. Also Five still respects and fears Reginald. [just rewatch that closet scene in S2]. They need to step up with Five and let him confront his past, what he has been through and how he dealt with it, and how he still deals with it. And he needs to talk to someone about it. Openly. They need to develop him, let his character grow, give him a space in his own right. Not just use him as a plot device without any regard to his arc.
If they repeat him being saviour of the day without any regard to himself, if they keep him completely separated from the rest of siblings, if they won’t give him someone who will listen to him, his character will fall flat. He will go to waste because they would leave him unchanged for three seasons in a row. They did give him small improvement, e.g him choosing not to kill swede even though S1 Five would. But I feel whatever they did with him in S2, it was bare minimum at best. Creators have to do more and better, before it’s too late.

i’ve been hyping myself up so much for aidan’s potential emmy nomination that i never thought about what would happen if he didn’t get nominated. the emmys are very picky so i feel like there’s a chance he won’t. and if he doesn’t i might just. live up to my username
Lmaooo yeaaaa. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t get nominated at all for his role as five, but I think he deserves some kind of award for it, mostly bc of how unusual five as a character is. I mean, he’s a 58 year old man in a child’s body and Aidan manages to nail it every time
Yeah, I don’t want to get my hopes up, but he’s such an amazing young actor. He definitely deserves to at least get nominated (but he should win imo). His performance is always better than I could have expected and I think it’s difficult role. I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing it better. An pretty much his only other acting experience is NRDD. I can’t believe it.
