anyways i gotta do more research but like. i'm thinking about headcanons for ganthel, because a) blorbo-related headcanons and b) letting it be JUST the "violent crime planet" is 1000% just fucking racist >_> "ah yes our black female character joined the imperial military in order to escape her home planet, the Gang Violence Planet" stop right there. what does ganthel have that ISN'T gang violence. what's their native cuisine. what does their music scene look like. what kind of political activism is happening there. and if we gotta talk about gang violence then like. WHY is there gang violence. WHY is there poverty. (also what does that poverty look like beyond violent crime!!) do you know what the prison-industrial complex is. how many teenage boys did the empire throw in for-profit prisons for cheap labor. how much economic exploitation is going on there. is anyone getting paid a fair wage on that planet. etc etc etc

see here's the fucking thing. darth vader was considered super scary, but he was standing next to run-of-the-mill rich fascists whose power lay in money and position, and he was part of a run-of-the-mill decadent evil empire bloated on the spoils of its conquered planets. kylo ren, on the other hand, is standing next to captain phasma (hardened warrior who grew up on a radioactive hellworld and who kills anyone who sees her face) and armitage hux (feral cult leader who's personally assassinated like half of high command and who outscreamed a bunch of teenagers at five years old), and he's part of an almost-completely-spacefaring order where even the people who look like run-of-the-mill rich fascists have probably done cannibalism out of starvation AND that formally announced its existence to the galaxy by blowing up five fucking planets from literal lightyears away because EVERYTHING ABOUT THE FIRST ORDER IS ABSOLUTELY BATSHIT INSANE. so honestly i think he deserves some credit just for being able to keep up

Hey! That's amazing, and I would love to know what the Star Wars version of Star Trek is like in your mind and what being a 'trekkie' looks like for her.
I really had to think about this because I don't think I have any headcanons for Rae that are really silly. I think if I have anything close to it, it's that Rae has a capacity for silliness and playfulness, but it's something she's actively had to ignore or repress in a male-dominated military environment. I think she'd very much like to be able to have a relationship with someone where she can be silly and teasing like that, but it's just never been sensible or safe.
Maybe not completely silly, but not super serious either: as we know Rae is a skilled boxer, I consider her very much to be an excellent hand-to-hand fighter in general, and I think while she's of course adept at strategy, careful planning, and inter-personal political dances, I think she also believes that sometimes the best strategy is a swift upper cut to the jaw. When the situation calls for it. I think she would pass this advice to Armitage, and while he might not have many opportunities to be doing it, I think his 'brute force is underrated' comment could be traced back to that lesson.
Also a headcanon that I apply not only to Rae, but also to other imperial officers, is that whenever something about the Empire is stupid, or illogical, or just isn't working, she says 'Long live the Empire' as a kind of sarcatic remark, if that makes sense. I like to think this is a phrase that's common amongst officers, and maybe stormtroopers, too, on occasion. Like, trying to get something approved, but all funds have to be diverted to the Death Star? Long live the Empire? Too much power given to pig-headed admirals who don't know what they're doing? Long live the Empire. Just maybe don't say it in front of the Loyalty Officers. I think Rae probably says this a lot to herself, and when she's telling stories about the Empire later. I think saying this while reminiscing with someone who was imperial (like a certain OC of mine) is a chance for her to express an amount of levity.
I'm sorry I don't have anything particularly silly for you, but I hope these are at least fun to read!
this is way late BUT! trekkie rae sloane explanation! the basic thing is, there's this one holoshow that's set in an idealized distant past, where humans were just starting to make contact with other alien species and explore the galaxy, and it's also super idealistic and cheesy. it's considered like "retro" or "vintage" sci-fi, kinda the same vibes as steampunk for us? (and really the 'closeted trekkie sloane' hc has morphed into a more general 'closeted retro sci-fi nerd sloane' hc lol) and part of the reason why it's a secret for her is because, at the beginning of the empire, it was one of the targets of a massive imperial psyop meant to spread anti-alien sentiment, and this specific show (which i'm calling Voyage Through The Stars) ended up widely mocked for being 'stupid' and 'baby-ish'...which means baby rae got bullied for liking it in space middle school :( i think she'd also like a LOT of other 'retro'/classic/just plain old sci-fi, not all of which would be as idealistic as VttS (like. i wanna port Dune into star wars under the name The Arrakis Chronicles), as part and parcel of her being a closet Astronomy Nerd, because literally how else could she have navigated the unknown regions, but she also keeps the Astronomy Nerd stuff under wraps because astronomy is kind of considered outdated/boring under the empire :(
(ps. this headcanon/set of hcs kinda straddles 'based on what i've actually read about her' and 'projecting my own autism', so The Vibes may not be as on point as some of the others i've talked about lmao)

oooo, my saddest? that's a hard one. lemme think...
(disclaimer that at this point i haven't read pretty much any of her canon material, haven't even fully read through her wookiepedia entry, i'm a fake fan going off vibes and minor tidbits so if i get anything blatantly wrong that's why)
probably my saddest one is just the sheer hell she goes through on the imperialis. i feel like this one is safe enough territory, since i've seen other sloane fans talk about how we get very little info on what exactly *happens* on that ship, but also even if it wasn't it is actually probably my saddest. she's surrounded by fellow imperial survivors, so logically you'd think she'd be safe and at home with them, but oh no--oh no no no, these imperials are cowards and liars and abusers, so much so that she sleeps on the floor in her office (little more than a closet, really, but what else could she reasonably ask for on such an overcrowded ship) because she's afraid that otherwise her command staff will rape her while she's unconscious. they're the dregs of the empire, she tells herself, we will get better people, it'll be worth it in the end, i just have to get through this voyage, this month, this week, this day, this meeting this conversation this minute this second--
fatalism is a poison, that's what they said all throughout the war, and she can feel it seeping the energy from her limbs, the strength from her bones, the life from her blood. she holds together in front of the crew--barely--but she's falling apart at the seams, her body shaking if she doesn't hold it at stiff attention, her vision going blurry if she has nothing to focus on for too long, her breath coming in gasps and sobs if she isn't barking orders. she really shouldn't be crying, she thinks, it's a waste of water, but she can't stop herself. some days--more and more frequent days--she can't even make herself crawl out of her blanket nest, the weight of a fallen empire, of being lost in the unknown regions, of a crew that hates her, far too heavy to stand under.
she'd given everything she had, everything she was, to the empire, and what has she gotten in return?

mildly ooc headcanon time: hux owns exactly one (1) t-shirt, it reads "i <3 abortion divorce and gay sex" on the front and "i am actively working to undermine the family" on the back, kylo ren got it for him as a gag gift, and he uses it with sleepwear along with an old pair of uniform pants on the rare occasions when he's not collapsing onto his cot in full uniform from sheer exhaustion
