My name is Paz, I'm an artist currently working and going to school to survive. I've been in poverty for the past four years, and I am hitting a breaking point. I am at serious risk of being homeless.
I'm a full-time student, and I also work. My situation has been worsening since I've started this campaign. I am optimistic I'll be able to get on my feet, but things are extremely hard. My mental health has suffered tremendously from the stress of losing housing, but nonetheless I am still exploring lawyers and other contingencies. The stakes are high, an eviction could stay on my record for the next seven years, and that would severely limit my options for leasing an apartment. I am really tired and exhausted from the trap of poverty, I'm really tired.
My job does not pay enough, school is increasingly difficult and I'm still trying to fix my GPA. I feel it physically, the stress, I feel my health getting worse, I feel tenseness throughout my body. I feel like I can't catch a break. Disability also compounds all the problems laid out. More than anything, I just want honest work with good pay, and I want to make comics on my time off. Art has been a refuge, and it's always nice when others like and share my posts. It makes me happy.
Sorry for the GFM posts, I'm just doing everything I can right now to not fall apart. I'm looking for another job, but the job market is really bad. I currently have commissions open, but they will be severely delayed due to court and my life circumstances more generally. Sorry to anyone currently taking a slot waiting for a commission update, I promise I haven't forgotten about you, I'm just prioritizing my current situation. I hope you understand. the incredible violence with which lesbophobia is normalized in every facet of society is sickening every time it crosses my mind. i'm so sorry lesbians, you don't owe men your time, respect, or body, and you don't deserve to be in community with people who insist the opposite, including other queer people.
i hate the way tmes and non-lesbian queers talk about my sexuality like it's a joke and then expect me to laugh with them.
i have got to get my father to sit down and focus and actually watch some portion of HLVRAI before he dies. im constantly haunted by the knowledge that all this incredibly innovative, completely grassroots improvisational theater--which is frankly some of the most cutting edge "new media" that currently exists and gets zero credit from academia or the larger art world for it because you have to be an exact 50/50 hybrid of annoying shakespeare college guy and annoying extremely online guy to understand what's even going on--is happening ON TWITCH for an audience of people who, while appreciative, are only experiencing it in the context of it being a "[a joke about a] video game stream". there should be regular columns in the New Yorker about stuff like Jerma's Dollhouse stream, one of the most well-known pieces of performance art in the classical sense that currently exists. it just bugs me. i dont know what to do about it. i used to be able to get paid to write really long articles about stuff like this in Kotaku and Wired etc but there's no readership for that either, and there wasn't then. no matter who im trying to explain how groundbreaking this stuff is to, they will need like a 30 minute preamble about either the world history of live theater traditions, or why the joke a gnome just said originated on the Something Awful forums in 2004 and why it matters.
of the two types of annoying guy you have to be to get this particular angle on this medium, the theater people are the ones who are going to get more out of it with much less explanation, but when you spec out of academia you lose touch with that peer group except for the other dilettantes, who are extremely few and far between. there's nothing anyone can do about this except vaguely plan on writing a book someday
for the first time ever in human history we are experiencing as an audience an improvised, live, ensemble theater production from the first person perspective of one of the actors. there should be a new paper about this on Academia.edu every week!!! its a big deal!!
