What's the difference between these three sentences? 1. Where do you put up? 2. Where do you live? 3. Where do you stay? Where do you put up? Is not correct as 'to put up' means 'to accommodate', as in: 1) Who has put you up? 2) Who is putting you up? 3) He was put up by a family of four. 4) Do you know anyone who can put me up for the night? It is also wrong because put up is transitive i.e. it must have an object. The sentence 'where do you put up' is becoming a new trend now-a-days mostly used by the youngsters. The sentence 'Where do you stay?' cannot be used like this. It should be Where are you staying? or Where do you stay when you go on holiday? The word 'stay' means living temporarily or for a short period of time, for example in a hotel. The term 'live' is used if you want to ask someone their address as it is permanent. Next time use these sentences carefully!

Grand We've been having a grand time together.

A paradox makes your brain hurt because it seems like something is true and false at the same time. Part of the fun of a paradox is figuring out if it really is one. How about this one: A father and son get in a car wreck and the father dies. The son goes to the hospital, but the doctor says, “I can’t operate on him. He’s my son.” Confused? Ha! Not a paradox, though — the doctor is his mom. Here’s a paradox by William Wordsworth, “The child is father of the man."  Oh jumbo shrimp of the world, we’re not calling you morons. You're oxymorons! The word itself is an oxymoron, a contradiction. So in general terms, Paradox is something to think on. Whereas, an oxymoron is a description, enjoyed in the moment then gone.

Jumbo shrimp? Open secret? Use oxymoron to refer to a word or phrase that contradicts itself, usually to create some rhetorical effect. When Shakespeare's Juliet says, "Parting is such sweet sorrow," she is using an oxymoron; her apparently self-contradictory turn of phrase actually makes a neat kind of sense. Oxymoron is sometimes used to describe a word combination that strikes the listener as humorously contradictory, even if the speaker didn't intend it that way — perhaps the most famous example is "military intelligence." The word oxymoron is itself an oxymoron; in Greek, oxy- means "sharp" or "wise," while moros means "foolish." In general terms, oxymorons are those words which conflict each other but are still used or spoken together.

In English, a contraction is an abbreviated word formed by removing a letter or multiple letters from a longer word or phrase. The omitted letters are replaced by an apostrophe. For example, he’s is a contraction of he is, won’t is a contraction of will not, o’clock is a contraction ofof the clock, and y’all is a contraction of you all. There is a longstanding superstition that contractions are always out of place in formal or serious writing. This may be a good rule for very formal contexts, especially when you are not familiar with your audience and need them to take you seriously, but outside very formal writing, there’s no good reason to avoid contractions. Yes, they create a breezier, more speech-like tone, but there’s nothing improper about that. In fact, using the noncontracted versions can sound overformal.

Spell-checkers have come a long way since a West Coast beach boy with an FBI record invented the first prototype at MIT in the 1960s. Now-a-days, this technolpgy also exists online, where it can point out mistakes in real time while we write emails or post on social media. But while spell-checkers' abiloty to identify and correct mistakes has evolved tremendously, most of these programs still struggle to catch homophones, those words that sound the same but carry different meanings, and often, different spellings as well.  So next time you’re writing, be sure to put on your thinking cap and look out for these homophones that most spell checkers won’t catch. Some common homophones are- 1.Accept/Except- She don't accept help except when it's from a professional. 2.Affect/Effect- The effect of the tornado was awful. Many people were affected by it. 3.Grown/Groan- "I have grown up, i guess", she groaned. 4.Aloud/Allowed- If you play the music aloud, you won't be allowed to go with us. 5.Bizarre/Bazaar- The chaos happening in the bazaar is bizarre. 6.Conscience/Conscious- My conscience plagues me most when I’m sleeping. Then, when I wake up, I become conscious of the guilt I’m feeling for my actions.
