First of all I lowkey forgot I was responding to this message cause I got called up for dinner... MY BAD
So I have four main characters and two main-ish characters...
Mira is the main character and like...who the series is told through. She's next in line for the throne in her home kingdom and is excited to be a ruler, but is struggling with the fact that her powers haven't shown themselves yet. In this universe, in order to rule, you have to have powers.
The powers themselves are kind of like...a royal gene thing that's passed down so the (wrong) presumption is that if an heir doesn't have powers, they're illegitimate. However, the thing is that some people just...don't have powers.
Reef is another character who is also next in line for the throne. He's Mira's best friend. He's usually pretty reserved, especially in public, but Mira brings out the sillier side in him. He's struggling with the same thing as Mira, that being that he doesn't have powers. In his home country, powers don't have as much of an emphasis, since the only thing you can't do without them is control the water. Anyone born in his home kingdom can breathe underwater, which is really the only requirement for someone to become ruler. Reef is still anxious about it though. TBH he just really wants to be like his mom, who is the most popular ruler that Pelegea (his home kingdom) has had.
Dionne is also friends with Reef and Mira, although she came into the friend group a little later. She's next in line for the plant kingdom...but also doesn't have powers....
I bet you can see where this is going....
Dionne is incredibly stubborn and has a slight ego. She loves to explore the surrounding nature area, and is always suggesting that when the friend group hangs out. She also is a dancer and puts countless hours into her craft. Her and Reef are always beefing for no reason. She doesn't really care about the fact that she doesn't have powers because even though her kingdom puts a large emphasis on it, she has other priorities. She never really cared about being ruler anyway.
The last main character is Aella. She also...also does not have powers. She struggles with this more than Dionne and Reef because of her dad. Her dad refuses to speak to her out of fear that she's illegitimate. The Air people (Which is where Aella is from) believe that if an illegitimate ruler comes to the throne, then the kingdom will be cursed with famine and such. Aella's mother doesn't care about her lack of powers and argues with Aella's father about it all the time. (The only reason the two haven't divorced is because...the air people also don't believe in divorce... lmao) One of the main powers of the air people is the ability to fly. Aella is a free spirit and longs to fly more than anything in the world. Her and Mira bond over the fact that they struggle with not having powers.
The two side main characters are Chiara and Noctus.
Chiara is the daughter of the light goddess, and she DOES have powers :0 !!! I know right!? It is possible!! Her main purpose is to help the main four unlock their powers. She has a massive (one-sided) crush on Reef and that's kind of how she gets swept up in this plot. Her mom has one single rule, which is don't get spotted by the land folk. (The fire, water, plant, and air kingdoms) Chiara ends up breaking this rule (naturally) to interact with Reef. Her mom punishes her by... drumroll please...taking away her powers!!! No one could've ever guessed that! She's very quiet and soft-spoken.
Noctus is the singular character who keeps his powers the whole time. YAY! He's the next in line for the dark kingdom's throne. (the kingdom is called The Nether haahahahaa...) He's a smart kid who's just gained his powers when the story starts, and there's a lot of fun parallels with him practicing his powers as the youngest of the group, while the whole rest of the group is older than him and they don't have powers. Oh yeah, he's the youngest and the reason he gets dragged into the group is because Chiara is frenemies with him and knows that The Nether has the most extensive library on the planet, so when the five of the other characters are trying to get their powers back, Chiara pays him a visit to get the gang into the library.
hopefully that all makes sense.
I lowkey forgot my thoughts halfway through since I was eating dinner.
ask any questions if you have them and I will try my bestest to answer :)
