Hello!
I will be using this blog as a journal to my work and reflections throughout my Semester V Design project.Â
I'm hoping this blog captures the best parts of another long semester.
The assignments for this semester are in 2 main parts; Part 1: Working in groups to ultimately design a floating settlement. Part 2: Individually designing and conceptualising dwellings for the settlement.

Concept Development Stage
The Bissaaveli settlement is intended to be a harmonious extension  of F.Nilandhoo and its expansive lagoon. The settlement creates significant connections both socially, and with nature. In order to be coherent with the settlement, the dwellings reflect these connections but in a spiritual sense. For dwellers to form an attachment to the unfamiliar, the dwellings emphasize on the natural landscape and social areas to make them âhomelyâ. the spaces are also intended to create a âhealing effectâ on the occupantsâ senses through circulation and vistas. The houses also maintain a coexistence between organicity derived from the surrounding and the rigidity that they are familar with. The houses attempt to redefine habitantsâ relationship with nature and learn to embrace it.

Nilandhoo is known to have a very rich biodiversity, this blog captured 6 different location of the lagoon area of Nilandhoo, over the past year and how it was back in 2016. Some of the marine life such as Turtles, Nurse Shark, Reef Shark, Lion Fish, Puffer Fish, Sea Slug, Marble Ray, Eagle Ray, Feather-tail Sting Ray, Anemone Fish, Trigger Fish are captured here. How the coral bleached reef has bounced back in over 4 years is astounding. Have a look at this breathtaking marine life that would be living under our floating structures!

This activity for our semester 5 of Architectural Design, entails a synopsis of the island of F.nilandhoo and important regions in order to comprehend the complexity of development and build a master plan for the harbor area.

Part 1C- Field Visit & Site Analysis
Our final design project will focus on the island of F.Nilandhoo, home to an expansive lagoon, favourable to the introduction of a floating settlement. Additionally, our studies will of course consider the physical features and vulnerability, along with social factors to create an effective and coherent design. More snippets of the island to come!
Exploring the Synergies of Sh. Atoll
Part 1A- Creative Mapping: Projected Implications
For this assignment, the class as a whole studied 3 regions; our group focused on Shaviyani Atoll and its capital, Sh. Funadhoo. We conducted desktop studies to illustrate hard, factual data in a way that could be compared and projected. Based on these studies, we also presented alternate solutions for the island to take advantage of in the future.
