“Pink,” that dreaded voice came from the medbay door. Devout stood in the doorway, with a face less than pleased. He held a different book than last time, but clearly some kind of Bible all the same.

Pinks gaze quickly fell on the doorway, holding Devs gaze,
"..How may I help." They asked, their voice lacking any warmth.
Pink leaned back in their desk-chair, setting their pen down as they make a 'come in' gesture with their other hand.
Devout Grey entered, “I doubt you are capable of helping in any way significant.” They spoke calmly, still holding Pink’s gaze. There was a moment of silence.
Before Dev finally sighed, setting aside their Bible and holding up their hand. There was a smear of blood on the front of the book, and a jagged cut on the palm of Dev’s hand. It did not seem fresh, maybe a day or so old. It was angry and inflamed.
Pink rolled their eyes at the comment, before their attention was brought to the relatively old-cut on Devs hand.
A small, almost smug smirk started appearing on their face.
".. I see."
Trying not to laugh because of the irony, Pink stands up from their chair and makes their way to a nearby cabinet.
"Since I 'probably cant help you in any meaningful way'," Pink repeated, "Ill just have to conpletely heal your hand.. what a shame." They said sarcastically, gesturing to Dev to move himself onto a stretcher.
Devout swallowed back the angry bile in their throat and sat on the stretcher. “You should be surprised I came to you for such a task. There are doctors far better on this ship, I am sure.” Yet, as he spoke, why did he come to Pink? Damn me.
Pink stopped rummaging through the cabinet, pulling out a bottle of antibacterial fluid before making their way over to a sink.
"Trust me, no ones better at medicine than me." Pink exclaimed, almost coldly.
They started washing their hands, quite quickly, as if they've done it millions of times before.
"Want to tell me a bit more about what happend?" They asked. ..yk gotta ask the doctor-y stuff even while hating the patient 😔✌️
Devout reluctantly extending his hand over to Pink. He looked them dead in the eyes, the only information they would allow being:
“You have to make sacrifices for your devotions.” He tilted his head forward, “you wouldn’t know very much about that, hmm?”
Pink paused. Just for a fraction. Closing their eyes tightly and taking a breath.
"I could tell from back here it was by your doing." Pink quipped, their unamused-ment easily heard, "Do you have the.. tool? You used? Was it rusty or anything?" They asked, completely ignoring Dev's last comment.
”I am not a fool,” he spoke flatly, “no, it was not rusty. It was piece of shattered glass, courtesy of my wine.” They kept their hand extended. Patiently, expectantly.
He wanted to break Pink’s nose, he wanted Pink to frustratingly gently tend to his hand. He had never liked contradictions. He had enough of those with his devotions without Pink being in the picture.
"You drink?!"
Pink was, honestly, shocked by the question.. nothing dramatic of course, but definitely snapped them out of auto-pilot.
With their hands finally washed, Pink put on some medical gloves on and walked over to Dev. ..the constant, expectant extending of the hand was driving them insane.
Slowly, almost as if Dev would bite, they hesitantly put Dev's hand in theirs, opening it up to look at the wound.
Pink inhales sharply, purely to make the noise, "Goodjob, your belief caused you to get stiches." They exclaimed, their gaze focused on the hand, not letting it go.
“Yes, I drink for religious purposes and rituals,” Devout spoke matter of factly. He quietly waited, and something about the way he sat softened and relaxed as he finally felt the weight of his hand rest in Pink’s hand.
The slowness at which Pink touched made his head spin. “Well, I do what is expected of me. I will bleed the unenlightened blood from my body.”
".. Youre literally gonna bleed yourself dry? Who told you to do that?!" Pink asked, a genuine question. I mean, they were dumb founded. Did he get a magic vision that told him to practice blood-letting?
"Maybe you should hold a chicken to your chest next, see if that 'enlightens' you." Pink mocked, letting go of Dev's hand and reaching for the antibacterial fluid.
Honestly, this experience wasnt as annoying as they thought itd be. Its fun to argue about beliefs again.

Devout furrowed his brow, “I will bleed myself from wrong if I am so told to.” Devout found their hand moved without them really thinking about it, so slightly moving towards Pink as they pulled away.
“I refuse to tell the identities of my Gods,” he spoke, in response to the comment of who told them to do this.

"Oh." "You actually know who the murderers are."
Pink had to pause for a second, trying to grasp the absurdity that they just realized.
"Someone actually told you to drain yourself dry. You actually know who's gonna murder us."
Pink took Dev's hand in theirs again, other hand fidgeting with the bottle of antibacterial fluid.
Dev looked away for once, their hand settling into Pink’s once more.
“They will only kill the sinners,” he said coldly, more of a grumble than usual. “They will only kill those who were destined to be their lambs. They are not murderers. They are benevolent killers.”
With a quick, satisfying pop, the cap of the bottle of antibacterial fluid came undone. And without any real warning, Pink poured it over Dev's hand, staring right. Into. His. Eyes. ..visor?
"You think you're not a sinner?" Pink asked, "Just because you cut yourself with wine, you think youre gonna be saved?"
Instead of curiosity, Pink's tone was cold, almost argumentative.
It was a quick, knee-jerk reaction, really. Dev’s uncut hand came up at the sudden burn, their sudden cold words, and the sound of his hand hitting Pink’s cheek rung out through the medbay.
He sat there, panting, his wounded hand pulsing with pain and his good hand tingling with the burn of the slap. The medbay was silent for a moment.
Pink's head moved with the slap, their head remaining twisted for a second before slowly turning back to face Dev.
"Was that really. Really necessary." They asked, rhetorically, looking down at Dev's hand and watching the white foam slowly bubble away.
Pink shook the pain off, ignoring the ache on their cheek as they took some saline from nearby, pouring it over Dev's hand to remove the remaining antibacterial fluid.
"Look, if I'm gonna stitch your hand, I dont want to get kicked."
Pink was surprisingly calm, all things considered.. huh.
Devout’s brow furrowed as they exhaled a breath, their uninjured hand still up. “…why didn’t you fight me back?” He sounded suspicious, yet he shuddered as the cool saline washed away the rest of that pesky antibacterial.

Pink attention went onto Dev, staring at him,
"A doctor shouldnt hurt their patient more..? Im not that type of amongi."
Pink (and i.) was honestly shocked that Dev's words, borderline geniune question. Who did he think they were?!
Nonetheless, Pink let go of Dev's hand to grab a sewing kit from nearby, replacing their gloves with newer, cleaner ones.
Dev scoffed, or something like that, and tried to ignore the pang in their chest of a feeling that felt somewhat like anger, but different, as Pink pulled away.
They had wanted Pink to fight back. They had wanted that sting, that burn, that— closeness. They shook their head quickly and waited quietly.
Pink quickly returned, grabbing their desk chair and sitting down right in front of Devout Grey.
God, it drove them insane. The ache on their cheek not fading, the warmth of being so close to Dev another amongi, it almost made Pink feel.. alive.
Pink took Dev's hand once again, trying their hardest not to stare as they moved the curved needle closer to his skin.
"I'm actually warning you this time, this will hurt." Pink exclaimed, waiting for some kind of acknowledgement.
Dev watched the needle draw closer to his hand, the wound still pulsing. He held his breath, his throat tightening. He let out a shakey exhale, “yes.”
He blinked, realizing how weird that sounded on its own, “yes, yes I know it will.” His fingers stretched out slightly more, fingertips trembling slightly.
Pink blinked alongside Dev. Yes, that was weird.
"Just, relax.." Pink advised quietly, taking in a breath right before the needle punctured the skin,
"Actually, I dont know why amongi say that.. Its better to tense up so it hurts less."
And finally, the needle punctured the skin. It came in through one side, and out the other, Pink pulling the thread back to shut the skin toghether. It left small amounts of blood behind, but nothing compared to the gaping wound on Dev's hand.
In, and out, pull. In, and out, and pull again.
Dev bit down hard on the inside of his upper lip to stop himself from gasping, yet, other than that, he tried to remain relaxed.
His gaze flickered from Pink’s meticulous, although incredibly painful, work on his hand, up to Pink’s visor. Their breath was choked in their throat, their fingers bent out and shaking ever so slightly with… pain, yeah, just that, sure.
Though Devout Grey tried to hide his.. pain, Pink quickly caught on.
"..Youre enjoying this, arent you?" Pink asked.. carefully. I mean, they were just trying to make small talk, really.
"I can practically see you biting your lip through your visor, Dev."
In and out, pull.
Dev had to let go of their lip, and a ragged breath slipped its way through before they clipped it.
“..Why..,” a suck of breath at the pull, “would I?” His gaze held Pink’s as hard as he could, his eyes sharp and tight.
Pink got.. curious. Almost, suspicious.
They started moving the needle slower, almost painfully so, trying to gauge Devouts reaction.
So slow you could feel the singular fibers being torn apart and slowly being pulled back together again, straining to keep toghether.
"..You tell me." They murmured, looking Dev in his eyes with the same intensity, holding their gaze.
Devout Grey felt as if their face swelled with painful heat. They tried to speak, but their words were as torn as the fibers in their skin, slowly breaking and being pulled back together.
“You-,” he hitched, “asshole.” It went against his conviction, swearing. But, God, this hurt, and, Lord, he did not want it to stop.
"My god," Pink fakes a gasp, "He can curse!"
They couldnt stop enjoying Devout's reaction. Something about it was.. different, in the best way possible.

"Last couple stitches, You doing fine?"
More of a rhetoric question, simply just trying to hear Dev admit their.. feelings? I guess??
Devout sucked in a shaky breath. “Yes, I’m fine.” He was still shuddering though, beads of sweat still dripping under his visor over his face. He could feel his heartbeat throughout his body.
“H-Hurry up.”
Pink hummed in acknowledgement, cotinuing their dedicated work;

And finally, after what felt like forever, the wound was all stitched. The work was nothing short of extraordinary, every stitch perfectly spaced apart, and each straight.
"Now, tell me," Pink spoke, "Did I help in any way?" (callback)
They slowly let go of Dev's hand- missing his warmth, before opening a nearby shelf and taking out some gauze and bandage.
"Take it easy on the hand, dont stretch it too much, et cetera.." They exclaim, like scripted, "..Goes without saying, but dont slice anything else open."
They place the piece of gauze on Devout's injured hand, preparing to wrap it up in bandage.
Dev instantly missed the stitches, but at least he could breathe now.
”There are no promises I can make to you. I will do what my Gods want me to.” He spoke, trying to even out the remaining waver in his voice. “I respond only to my Gods’ wishes.”
"If you say so.." Pink sighed, holding the gauze in place whike they reach for a bandage.
"..Tell me, what if the gods tell you to hurt another amongi? And innocent one?"
They asked, genuinely. Their hands already wrapping the bandage softly around the whole hand.
Devout’s hand relaxed into Pink’s. As much as they, or least told themselves that they, hated it, their hand was tired. “They know better than any one of us. I would do it.”

Their hands stilled, looking up at Devout Grey for an answer.
I mean, its not like Pink cared, they were just curious. You know. Best doctor on the ship. Could save lives. No biggie. Casual.

Devout reluctantly extending his hand over to Pink. He looked them dead in the eyes, the only information they would allow being:
“You have to make sacrifices for your devotions.” He tilted his head forward, “you wouldn’t know very much about that, hmm?”
Pink paused. Just for a fraction. Closing their eyes tightly and taking a breath.
"I could tell from back here it was by your doing." Pink quipped, their unamused-ment easily heard, "Do you have the.. tool? You used? Was it rusty or anything?" They asked, completely ignoring Dev's last comment.
”I am not a fool,” he spoke flatly, “no, it was not rusty. It was piece of shattered glass, courtesy of my wine.” They kept their hand extended. Patiently, expectantly.
He wanted to break Pink’s nose, he wanted Pink to frustratingly gently tend to his hand. He had never liked contradictions. He had enough of those with his devotions without Pink being in the picture.
"You drink?!"
Pink was, honestly, shocked by the question.. nothing dramatic of course, but definitely snapped them out of auto-pilot.
With their hands finally washed, Pink put on some medical gloves on and walked over to Dev. ..the constant, expectant extending of the hand was driving them insane.
Slowly, almost as if Dev would bite, they hesitantly put Dev's hand in theirs, opening it up to look at the wound.
Pink inhales sharply, purely to make the noise, "Goodjob, your belief caused you to get stiches." They exclaimed, their gaze focused on the hand, not letting it go.
“Yes, I drink for religious purposes and rituals,” Devout spoke matter of factly. He quietly waited, and something about the way he sat softened and relaxed as he finally felt the weight of his hand rest in Pink’s hand.
The slowness at which Pink touched made his head spin. “Well, I do what is expected of me. I will bleed the unenlightened blood from my body.”
".. Youre literally gonna bleed yourself dry? Who told you to do that?!" Pink asked, a genuine question. I mean, they were dumb founded. Did he get a magic vision that told him to practice blood-letting?
"Maybe you should hold a chicken to your chest next, see if that 'enlightens' you." Pink mocked, letting go of Dev's hand and reaching for the antibacterial fluid.
Honestly, this experience wasnt as annoying as they thought itd be. Its fun to argue about beliefs again.

Devout furrowed his brow, “I will bleed myself from wrong if I am so told to.” Devout found their hand moved without them really thinking about it, so slightly moving towards Pink as they pulled away.
“I refuse to tell the identities of my Gods,” he spoke, in response to the comment of who told them to do this.

"Oh." "You actually know who the murderers are."
Pink had to pause for a second, trying to grasp the absurdity that they just realized.
"Someone actually told you to drain yourself dry. You actually know who's gonna murder us."

Dev looked away for once, their hand settling into Pink’s once more.
“They will only kill the sinners,” he said coldly, more of a grumble than usual. “They will only kill those who were destined to be their lambs. They are not murderers. They are benevolent killers.”
With a quick, satisfying pop, the cap of the bottle of antibacterial fluid came undone. And without any real warning, Pink poured it over Dev's hand, staring right. Into. His. Eyes. ..visor?
"You think you're not a sinner?" Pink asked, "Just because you cut yourself with wine, you think youre gonna be saved?"
Instead of curiosity, Pink's tone was cold, almost argumentative.
It was a quick, knee-jerk reaction, really. Dev’s uncut hand came up at the sudden burn, their sudden cold words, and the sound of his hand hitting Pink’s cheek rung out through the medbay.
He sat there, panting, his wounded hand pulsing with pain and his good hand tingling with the burn of the slap. The medbay was silent for a moment.
Pink's head moved with the slap, their head remaining twisted for a second before slowly turning back to face Dev.
"Was that really. Really necessary." They asked, rhetorically, looking down at Dev's hand and watching the white foam slowly bubble away.
Pink shook the pain off, ignoring the ache on their cheek as they took some saline from nearby, pouring it over Dev's hand to remove the remaining antibacterial fluid.
"Look, if I'm gonna stitch your hand, I dont want to get kicked."
Pink was surprisingly calm, all things considered.. huh.
Devout’s brow furrowed as they exhaled a breath, their uninjured hand still up. “…why didn’t you fight me back?” He sounded suspicious, yet he shuddered as the cool saline washed away the rest of that pesky antibacterial.

Dev scoffed, or something like that, and tried to ignore the pang in their chest of a feeling that felt somewhat like anger, but different, as Pink pulled away.
They had wanted Pink to fight back. They had wanted that sting, that burn, that— closeness. They shook their head quickly and waited quietly.
Pink quickly returned, grabbing their desk chair and sitting down right in front of Devout Grey.
God, it drove them insane. The ache on their cheek not fading, the warmth of being so close to Dev another amongi, it almost made Pink feel.. alive.

"Just, relax.." Pink advised quietly, taking in a breath right before the needle punctured the skin,
"Actually, I dont know why amongi say that.. Its better to tense up so it hurts less."
And finally, the needle punctured the skin. It came in through one side, and out the other, Pink pulling the thread back to shut the skin toghether. It left small amounts of blood behind, but nothing compared to the gaping wound on Dev's hand.

Dev bit down hard on the inside of his upper lip to stop himself from gasping, yet, other than that, he tried to remain relaxed.
His gaze flickered from Pink’s meticulous, although incredibly painful, work on his hand, up to Pink’s visor. Their breath was choked in their throat, their fingers bent out and shaking ever so slightly with… pain, yeah, just that, sure.

They had wanted Pink to fight back. They had wanted that sting, that burn, that— closeness. They shook their head quickly and waited quietly.
Pink quickly returned, grabbing their desk chair and sitting down right in front of Devout Grey.
God, it drove them insane. The ache on their cheek not fading, the warmth of being so close to Dev another amongi, it almost made Pink feel.. alive.
Pink took Dev's hand once again, trying their hardest not to stare as they moved the curved needle closer to his skin.
"I'm actually warning you this time, this will hurt." Pink exclaimed, waiting for some kind of acknowledgement.
Dev watched the needle draw closer to his hand, the wound still pulsing. He held his breath, his throat tightening. He let out a shakey exhale, “yes.”
He blinked, realizing how weird that sounded on its own, “yes, yes I know it will.” His fingers stretched out slightly more, fingertips trembling slightly.
Pink blinked alongside Dev. Yes, that was weird.
"Just, relax.." Pink advised quietly, taking in a breath right before the needle punctured the skin,
"Actually, I dont know why amongi say that.. Its better to tense up so it hurts less."
And finally, the needle punctured the skin. It came in through one side, and out the other, Pink pulling the thread back to shut the skin toghether. It left small amounts of blood behind, but nothing compared to the gaping wound on Dev's hand.
In, and out, pull. In, and out, and pull again.
Dev bit down hard on the inside of his upper lip to stop himself from gasping, yet, other than that, he tried to remain relaxed.
His gaze flickered from Pink’s meticulous, although incredibly painful, work on his hand, up to Pink’s visor. Their breath was choked in their throat, their fingers bent out and shaking ever so slightly with… pain, yeah, just that, sure.
Though Devout Grey tried to hide his.. pain, Pink quickly caught on.
"..Youre enjoying this, arent you?" Pink asked.. carefully. I mean, they were just trying to make small talk, really.
"I can practically see you biting your lip through your visor, Dev."
In and out, pull.
Dev had to let go of their lip, and a ragged breath slipped its way through before they clipped it.
“..Why..,” a suck of breath at the pull, “would I?” His gaze held Pink’s as hard as he could, his eyes sharp and tight.
Pink got.. curious. Almost, suspicious.
They started moving the needle slower, almost painfully so, trying to gauge Devouts reaction.
So slow you could feel the singular fibers being torn apart and slowly being pulled back together again, straining to keep toghether.
"..You tell me." They murmured, looking Dev in his eyes with the same intensity, holding their gaze.
