The good: Reform UK is currently stymied by unfortunate random bullshit. Nigel Farage is by far their most recognisable name and was probably the most successful politician in the UK as a whole, and now his political future is dubious at best. There’s a small chance he loses to Binface which might just mean the end of him immediately, because that would be so fucking embarrassing. But even if he wins, he’s still facing an investigation which has a high chance of ousting him from parliament, and after very publicly trying to wriggle out of it through a loophole. His situation was already bad enough for him to try this gambit and now the best case scenario is that he ends up exactly where he started, but with much worse optics and after a month of national humiliation. He’s gone from being extremely likely to become Prime Minister to being an outsider again. Fun to see.
Secondly, Restore Britain has formed which is doing nothing but splitting the vote. They are further right than Reform, but as it stands now they do not have enough of the vote to be a serious political entity worth consideration. Basically all they’re doing is leaching voters and funding from Reform, including notably Elon Musks funding having switched entirely. A little bit of schismatic infighting that only serves to weaken the right, and the parties likely won’t unify while Musk still holds a grudge against Farage, since Restore would lose that income.
The bad: The underlying ideas are still immensely popular in the UK and still seem to be only growing with time. Increasingly extreme rhetoric about immigration has swelled even as migration shrinks, and even though it really was not ever a problem in the UK in the first place. All parties except the Green party have capitulated into accepting that the issue of issue is by far the biggest issue of our time, essentially handing the elections to whoever promises to be most severe on it. Same with trans issues; the Green party is the only party that thinks that Trans people should have rights, Labour has publicly apologised for the amount of rights trans people currently have and are working to fix that, and anyone further right is a raging bigot. The British public support this overwhelmingly.
So basically the Green party is the only party that is somewhat sane on major issues, and though they were growing for a while that seems to have reversed. People noticed that the Left wing was beginning to gain influence, so all major news outlets ran constant and exclusively negative coverage of the Greens until they had successfully convinced people that they were both incompetent babies and evil, perhaps even worse than the fascists. Actually, definitely worse than the fascists.
So basically, there is no hope.
