The longer it takes for this to come across your dash the funnier it is
Which will fade first? Memories of the Area 51 "raid", or memories of Internet Explorer?
Oh my god....
Aliens bodies are probably different as hell. Or similar
Oppression olympics is a funny term to levy against trans women, who are banned from the olympics.

i hate seeing neopoptimists respond to the emily wilson review of nolan's odyssey by pretending it says something completely different to what it says. wilson literally doesn't say anything that indicates she objects to the concept of adaptation, she literally explains why she thinks each individual adaptation choice is a bad one in the most clear terms possible. some people genuinely just get aggro'd just from seeing anyone criticize a blockbuster movie it's bleak
Scion looking at Jack Slash and wondering
"What is wrong with him?"
There was a scene where the entity stood over the broadcaster’s corpse and ruminated on what had driven the male to such extremes. The shard wasn’t a particularly aggressive one.

the fact that dark worlds feel like lively vast worlds full of people with their own thoughts and feelings, while hometown feels like a last thursdayish bubble where every other npc is slowly losing sentience, really drives home how it feels to see no future or interest in your real life and having to sink into fiction to escape that feeling of emptiness
From the perspective of phantom menace film being the beginning of the story, and one that goes out of its way to explore interplanetary economics and peacekeeping, taking place mostly on a planet that will be thematically embedded into the entire franchise. it's pretty mad that absolutely nobody (except fucking boba fett) ever does anything or even entertain the idea of changing the material conditions of tatooine.
Like "i hate sand" gets ripped on for being somewhat childish and poorly acted, but when you think about it why does a guy who got freed from child slavery, without his saviours doing anything to help his enslaved mother that is being left behind then get taken to the galactic capital and find out that slavery is actually considered deeply unethical and is outlawed in most of the known galaxy by the republic he works for to go back to his home as an adult and only freak the fuck out murderstyle on the guys who killed his mom and not like, obi wan, yoda or the guy who owned him and sold his mom to the people who killed her.
"Why did none of you free my mom or any of the other children I grew up with obi wan" is like a million more times interesting reason to go darksided than like... my girlfriend is dying (not really)
Yeah yeah downfall of the jedi bla bla, but the films never actually addresse this as a fault. textually qui gon and obi wan are completely unconcerned about this
There are plenty of criticisms to have towards Karen Traviss, but one I refuse to tolerate is the way she portrayed the Jedi in her Republic Commando books. Because all she did was have them say the quiet parts out loud. "Yeah, slavery is bad, but we already own slaves so why wouldn't we use them when given half a chance?" is literally the driving force of the entire Clone Wars era. She has the Jedi openly admit to using slaves because it benefits them, and this pissed Star Wars fans SO much that if you even mention the books online you'll get rushed by people who want to tell you about why she was evil and horrible and didn't understand Star Wars for doing that.
The Jedi view slavery as an inherit moral wrong, the Republic considers it a legal wrong, neither group (for they are one and the same) will take any actions to stop it. Both will actively participate in it, when given whatever justification they need. Except Lucas never actually cared about that. Anakin wasn't a slave because Lucas wanted to tell a story about the evils of slavery, he was a slave because Lucas wanted a rags to riches story. The Clones, despite literally being property who are bred and culled and forced to participate in life threatening labor and war by their owners, are not considered slaves by any of the actual heroes of Star Wars. Because Lucas didn't want a story about slavery, he just wanted Cool Space Guys to fight Bad Space Robots and needed to explain a throwaway line he wrote over twenty years earlier.
And the end result is a narrative that is at best slavery ambivalent, with heroes who actively participate in the slave trade, and you're just not supposed to address it. And when you do, whether you're a fan capable of basic media literacy or an actual professional writer working on the property, people fucking hate you for pointing that out.

If i had a death note i would just start killing people. Instead of blocking annoying people online i would just be wiping them out. You would think this would mean i can’t be trusted with a death note, but no i can be. They have it coming.
One of the funniest features in modern social media is how reddit accidentally added a “send anonymous kys message” button next to the block button. Finally some good intuitive web design
watching the leftism leaving peoples bodies when you point out the sex offender registry is a grotesque violation of human rights
the only reason the registry exists is because we culturally view sexual crimes as inherently more evil and unforgivable than any other kind of violence. people are more willing to believe that a murder can grow and change than a flasher. if you’re woke enough to believe that ‘innocence’ is a fascist concept and sex is just another thing the body can do, then you should believe the corollary: hurting someone with your genitals is no different from hurting them with your fists
and yet, murderers and other violent offenders do not have their full names, faces, and addresses put on a public database for the rest of their lives. there is no such thing. they are not legally barred from watching movies containing violence, or owning imagery containing violence
in my state, sex offender probation means you can be searched, at any time, without a warrant, and owning a copy of playboy is a violation. it means you’ll be arrested if a family member comes to stay with you and you don’t register their vehicle with the sheriff. the dehumanization is beyond the pale
Multiple people have brought up the point that the sex offender registry disproportionately targets marginalized people and is used to criminalize the existence of queers, etc. That is true, and it's important to know, but, I cannot stress enough:
This post is about rapists.
The sex offender registry is not bad because innocent people are on it. It is bad because it is a gross abuse of human rights. Rapists are human beings. They deserve human rights. They deserve privacy. They deserve free access to media. They deserve the opportunity to grow and change.
Too many of you are only interested in protecting Unperson's rights as a means to protect Good People's rights, and it shows.
There's really this strong temptation that everyone has which basically says "to have interiority is to be like me; ordinary people are surface everywhere." And this manifests in different ways in different spaces, and becomes really pronounced when you cluster together with similar people. So tumblr users often act like straight people don't have any interiority because it helps you feel the deepening of social bonds with other gay people. This happens professionally too. I think it was Summer or Sharks who was saying that programming people think that intelligence is just being really good at writing code. Not surprising but very strange to me! I am (equally ridiculously) used to thinking that intelligence is being really good at philosophy, having command of a lot of sources that you can use creatively, etc. This reflects a kind of dynamic on tumblr and reddit. On reddit to have interiority is to be a science guy and on tumblr to have interiority is to be a humanities girl (and the dynamic is gendered in exactly this way). And I think there is something dangerous about habitually regarding other people as automatons. It's good to have people outside of your niche to remind you that other people from different walks of life are quite deep and complicated. They are full of love and fine grained attention to things you never thought to care about. And I think a lot of people go through life thinking of themselves as perpetually victimized by basically empty people rather than having genuine confrontations with full, genuine people who are committed to subtle, complex and real values, who have detailed and intricate histories, and who have a bond to you that you might never quite fully understand. But we rarely even try at understanding these things. We just decide that they're stupid and ridiculous and unreasonable.

“That is a very nice dress, Snow,” Avery observed. Snowdrop made a face, looking down. “That was on purpose. Except John doesn’t deserve bringing out the nice clothes.” “I’m touched,” John said, putting a hand on her head. “You’re awful,” Snowdrop jeered. “You’re mean to me and you play bad video games and whenever I come over my timing is terrible.” – Pale, Gone Ahead 7.1
Absolutely delighted to read this chapter and find out these two are friends.
