Rubens - Prometheus Bound
The name “Theatre of Cruelty” refers to Artaud’s goal of foxing the audience, despite their wishes, to confront themselves and their subconscious. Artaud used an open space without any separation of the audience and the performers, strobe like lights, costumes and props that had purpose and strong emotional and guttural sounds to achieve what he wanted for the audience.
The picture above is from a modern day “theatre of cruelty”-style performance: http://www.nouse.co.uk/2013/03/05/the-movements-the-theatre-of-cruelty/theastre-of-cruelty-2/

This is a treasured possesion of mine. According to swedish folklore this is a vaettir candle. The vaettir (or vättar) are nature spirits living underground. They were believed to be small, often invisible, human like creatures who could turn malevolent should you offend them in any way. These vaettir candles are originally a common type of fossil, but in the olden days these fossils were believed to be the petrified candles left behind by the vaettir’s after they had ascended their underground lairs to dance. If you found one of these candles you’d be wise to keep it with you as it would protect you from the vaettir’s maleficent magic. © Mimmi Strinnholm (http://instagram.com/thistlemilk)
