course i've been humbled by the void

there is a certain kind of disenchantment in realizing that what felt like a profound interpersonal drama may have depended heavily on asymmetries in how reality itself appeared to each participant. one person lives in a world where everything glows with possible meaning. the other lives in a world where things are much flatter, quieter, less insistently significant. of course they are going to have trouble understanding each other. they’re not just disagreeing about what events mean. they’re disagreeing about which events even register as meaningful enough to interpret in the first place. who we are is far more constrained by the kinds of worlds our brains make available to us than we usually like to admit

i saw something bad happen out there so i needed darkness shower

the shower has always been my respite zone like touching base in tag but for the whole world....i would sit in the shower as a kid for as long as i could and my mother asked me accusingly what are you DOING in there but i wasn't jerking off i was just being safe in the dark and sometimes getting all my crying done
