Evidently, Luxu had not been wasting his voice, the strange boy would probably have never found him if Luxu had not been calling out. “That’s a silly question.” He said, feeling much better now that he knew he was not stranded here alone. “Of course I’m lost.” Of course, the relief of having found another person to talk to was short lived as Luxu took in what exactly the other boy had said. There should be no other soul walking these street. How cryptic! What did that mean? “Where did they all go?” Luxu asked, looking at his surroundings again. “This place… It’s not supposed to be empty, is it?” That did not sound right to Luxu. A place as big as this absolutely should be bustling with people.

“It is not supposed to be.” Xehanort admitted. “These houses were meant to be lived in, these streets have been walked in. And yet, we stand in the ghost of a grander city.”

A city that must have been alive at some point, and yet all that could greet the mysterious newcomer was empty white houses and a beautiful sun over the sea.

“They have been abandoned for decades, centuries even. Scala ad Caelum has been shrinking over the ages.” He added. “It is where we are, and if you wish to encounter civilization, I can lead you there.” He offered.

He could not deny himself curious, albeit only showing it insofar as it would be polite.

“How can I call you?” He then asked. “My name is Xehanort, apprentice of the ways of the Keyblade.”

And would this last word bring about any reaction on the one before Xehanort, he wondered?

Luxu stumbled over the stone walkways, still completely unsure of his surroundings despite what felt like hours of wandering. Perhaps the most unsettling thing about this place -where ever it was- was that it looked like the kind of place that should be bustling with people, and yet Luxu had not met a single other soul.

Which of course had Luxu in a near panic. He was lost on a strange world and he was alone. All alone. Did this mean Luxu was dead and this place was some kind of lonely purgatory? “Hello?” He cried out desperately for the thousandth time, hoping that maybe this time someone would answer. “Is there anybody here?”

It was not a purgatory, yet it was true that Scala ad Caelum, grand as the world was, had lost most of its citizens. Only a handful of dozens remained, most of them in the Academy or nearby, and the islands beyond it tended to be devoid of life and of noise.

Had Xehanort not chosen to go beyond the Academy Island today, Luxu may have found himself greeted by little but the echoes of long gone ghosts. The Empty Islands were quite a comfortable place to study, nevertheless, particularly when one didn’t want to hear once again that they were toying a fine line, wanting to learn more about that which all Wielders fought.

He had, of course, not expected to hear anyone there, and he approached the voice with a calm he didn’t feel.

“You were wasting your voice,” he began, as he turned the corner and regarded the newcomer quizzically. “I have just arrived, and there should be no other soul walking these streets. Are you lost?”

Was he to train beside them, then, if he too had found his way to this world?

Seeing the young man, Ansem steps back and tenses up at the sight. He looks too familiar, and yet, it can’t be, can it? Those eyes, he knows those eyes from anywhere, and this feeling, this smell... Jaw clenches up, fists ball up as his heart thumps quickly in his chest.

“Who are you?” Seeing the eyes roll, the blond tsk. “Tell me.”

His eyes are indeed unmistakable, even if the cold glint behind them is not exactly that of the apprentice.

“And why should I?” Xehanort speaks, nevertheless, a certain amusement in his voice. “I am not one of your subjects.”
