This "simple" lyric video astounded me!

You always amaze me Taylor!

For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums. 

Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years. 

Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.

This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it. 

When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever. 

Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.

I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.

This is beautiful. I may be an asshole for doing it, but every time I’m in Target I spread out all of Taylor’s albums so they’re in everyone’s direct eyeline.

Tom sits under a beautiful oak tree holding a book. You can’t see the title as you are sat next to him also reading a book. To him you are just a stranger also reading a book. Except you know exactly who he is.

Your eyes keep flicking up from the book. Eventually, you pluck up the courage to talk to him. “Sorry, you’re Tom Hiddleston aren’t you?” He smiles, “Hello! Yes I am. What’s your name?” You exchange pleasantries and take a quite picture of the two of you.

“What are you reading?” He whispers under the tree, his eyes fixed on your book. “A Midsummers Nights dream.” His jaw drops. “No way! A Shakespeare fan! I’m reading the sonnets for a part.”

You politely smile and ask to see the sonnet he’s reading. You start, “Shall I compare thee to a summers day.” You realize his hands are entwined and held on his firm stomach. His eyes are shut and his head rests on the tree. His legs outstretched. He mouths the words as you speak and he begins to recite it with you.

“Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May and summers lease hath all too short a date.” You pause there and he opens his eyes. “Why did you stop darling?”

Your eyes seem sad. “This will never happen again. I may never see you again.” Tom leans over. “Sweetie, I never ever do this and my security man will kill me. But.” He reaches into his back pocket. “Call me sometime. We can rehearse together in secret. I will have to make you sign a confidentiality agreement of course.” You smile more. “Sonnet 14. Beautiful… Like the lovely person who read it. His eyes meet your. He shuffles closer to you and you carry on reading.

The course of true love never did run smooth…

The host looks to you and Tom, smiling cheekily at your clasped hands. “So, Tom and Y/N, how long’s this been going on?” The audience whoops and cheers as you both blush and chuckle.

“Uh, about eight months,” you answer, “This is our first interview together since we announced it.”

“And any speed bumps along the way?” The host teases playfully.

“A few,” Tom smiles.

You smile back and add, “Yeah, Tom snores sometimes.”

“Y/N listens to songs on repeat.”

“And I hate Shakespeare.” 

The whole studio gasps in shock, as Tom had just been talking about his love for the writer and his works. The host’s jaw has dropped and is staring at you. You just sit there with an awkward smile on your face.
