Falling for a Roadman
Jane is a girl who lives in Amsterdam. She loves her life there. She has her friends and lovely parents and perfect grades in school. Jane has always been the girl who has everything figured out. She organized everything in her life. For her masters degree she moved to London. The Amsterdam life was not enough for her. She craved excitement and adventure, and London was the best place for her to live her dream.
On one evening, she decided to grab dinner with a classmate from her study group. They chose a trendy rooftop restaurant that showed stunning views of the city. As Jane enjoyed her meal, she took the time to look around and enjoy the moment. It was a vibrant place and she felt happy to be there. However, after dinner, her friend had to leave. Jane felt a little sad but decided to make the most of her evening on her own.
After saying goodbye, she stepped out to the rooftop to enjoy the midnight air and light up a cigarette. The sparkling city lights captivated her and she found herself lost in her thoughts about how much she loved London and all the new adventures that lay ahead. Suddenly, a voice jolted her from her daydream.
“Wow, it’s pretty chill up here, huh?”
Startled, Jane nearly dropped her cigarette. She turned to see a handsome guy leaning casually against the railing, flashing a playful grin. His dark hair was beautiful in the light and his blue blouse fit well with his crisp white and blue sneakers. She was stunned and struggled to speak.
“Uh, yeah. I didn’t expect to see anyone else up here,” she replied, trying to catch her breath.
“Didn’t mean to scare you!” he chuckled, his voice smooth with a thick London accent. “I’m Jamal. What’s your name?”
“Jane,” she said, feeling a bit flustered. “I thought I was going to have the place to myself.”
“Nah, not tonight! What brings you up here?” He was looking around, taking in the view.
“I just had dinner with a friend, but she had to rush off. I’m here for my masters degree. I’m from the Netherlands,” Jane said, trying to keep it casual.
“Ah, so the Dutch babe is smart, huh? I like that,” he grinned. “What do you think of London so far?”
“It’s incredible! The energy is so different from back home,” Jane replied, her excitement spilling over. “I feel like I’m living in a movie.”
“I get that! London’s got that vibe, but it’s also raw. I grew up on these streets,” he said, his expression shifting slightly. “There’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.”
Jane was taken aback by his honesty. Jamal was unlike anyone she had ever met before. His relaxed attitude and street-smart charm drew her in, and she felt a spark of curiosity.
“You seem really laid-back,” she said, genuinely interested. “I’ve always been the organized type, but I want to explore more of what life has to offer.”
“Why not? Life’s too short to be serious all the time! You’ve gotta embrace the chaos,” he said, leaning in with an encouraging look. “London’s the perfect place for that.”
They continued chatting and Jane found herself captivated by his stories of the city and his passion for music. He talked about rap, about how he was working on his own tracks, and she couldn’t help but be fascinated by his passionate story. This was a different world and it made her excited.
“Thanks! You’ve gotta see the real London, not just the touristy spots,” Jamal replied, a twinkle in his eye. “What do you say we explore together, innit? I know some hidden gems you’d love.” As they made plans, Jane felt a rush of excitement. She never expected to meet a roadman like Jamal when she moved to London. While exploring this new world was exciting, it also had its challenges. She loved the energy of the streets but felt uneasy about the rough side of his life. She was thinking a lot about how her parents were going to react. Jamal took her to a lot of activities. Each night was filled with fun and she deeply enjoyed discovering this new world with Jamal by her side. He made her feel at ease
