Dear Adrienne,

As promised, your video was viewed and heavily critiqued by not only myself but everyone here in the 75th platoon. We played it on the big screen where most of the soldiers here do their video home messages. 

It was very well received. Some of the guys here were extremely taken with you. It feels as though you have inadvertently became a celebrity with a small selection of the gentleman here. 

As for me, you’re right about the jumping but that’s never a bad thing. You’re showing passion for what you’re working on. There’s a glint in your eyes where it looks like the music is holding you, enveloping you. 

You were enchan captivating. Truly.

Also, I don’t plan to stop writing letters until you have successfully carried out your mission. Possibly even further after that. I have to see you live.

You’ll allow me that at the least right?

And the “terrible lighting” does give me a good idea of what you look like and I was right before in our older letters: you have a beautiful smile.

Dear Elijah ( HA FINALLY KNOW YOUR NAME! ), 

“Extremely taken” huh? Does that mean men halfway across the world think I’m cute? Please tell me that someone finds me cute.  I’m glad you liked the video, took me awhile to master but I think I did okay in the end. Since you’ve seen me manage my way through Tchaikovsky, got any recommendations on what I should play for my audition?

See me live. A girl just learns what your name is and you’re already inviting yourself over for a visit? Sounds a little forward there soldier.

If you’re ever coming to New York City, I wouldn’t say no to a visit. Out of curiosity how long are you supposed to be over there? Most tours last for more than a couple months right? I’d be glad to know I’m not the only one who will be heading home for the summer.

I’m going to be writing my address on the back of this letter. If you’re so determined to keep this project going, you can send your reply to this letter there. With any luck, I’ll be out of my dorms and back with my roommate by then.

Rest assured that your home address is known by me and me alone in these barracks. It’s my own private motivator for these last few weeks. Which brings us to the answer of your question, I’m going to be shipped back home (New York) in about two months. I’ve already spent about five months out here so it’s all coming to the finale. Hopefully, that involves me taking you out to a few piano bars and maybe even a festival. It usually pops up about the time that I come back home. 

I think you’ll like it, they host it in this cafe they rent out the entire space and set up different stages for different artists and let them all have a chance at the spot light to play. 

I hear they might even let in last minute sign ups. 

Alas, these are all just the ramblings of a soldier who is hoping that a beautiful college pianist will find the time to engage in each other’s company.

I hope this letter reaches you safely back home. Congratulations, by the way, on completing another college year.

He cocked a grin at his friend’s abundant annoyance with him. Elijah paced around her living room until his shoulder nudged hers with his forearm. “I don’t see the harm in doing both. Besides, I can’t remember the last time we properly spent time together. Without that pet husband of yours.”

“You’re one to talk about pet spouses” Kara snorted, watching his expression. But her shoulders slump in defeat, as annoying as he and his family can be … the werewolf had missed him greatly. “It’s been a while since I’ve seen you without your brother in tow, don’t tell me you two had another row?”

“It’s quaint. Spacious, remote, in the middle of fucking Alaska with your scrappy new pack. I’m assuming they adore you. You seem to be doing very well for yourself, Sheriff. Have they promoted you to Sheriff yet?”

Elijah threw his backpack into the trunk of his car. As Adrienne rambled on about some tedious sounding favor, he traced his tongue on his bottom lip. Slamming the door shut, the student body president leaned into his rest arm and flexed his eyebrow in her direction. “Is that a shot at yourself about your own height or are you actually trying to get something out of me?”’

Dear Adrienne,

How long do you think we’ve been sending these letters back and forth? No looking back at other letters. That is considering cheating, young Padawan. I don’t know if your sense of time might be slightly skewed due to your current habitual nature as a college student, but it seems like not that long. Or at the very least, long enough to come towards the end of semester. Perhaps a few weeks past that. 

You have got to be circling around summer vacation by now. You have new found freedom following under your wing. I can’t imagine you being a “skip in your step” type of woman so let’s say “extra swagger in your stride”. Yes. There’s a swagger in your stride down the streets and one night - at the very least one - you saw a poster in the window for a Duel Piano Concerto Contest. 

I demand video proof. As previously promised. Please and Thank you, dear.

Dear Soldier, 

I’m going to pretend I know for a fact you told me you never watched Star Wars, so try and keep the references to the professional nerds. I would have to say we’ve been writing for a few months now (four or five maybe?) God how does a semester go by so quickly?  By the time you get this, I think I will be officially done with school and this class. On one hand, I’m excited about the summer. On the other, I wonder what’s going to happen to our letters once you get this one nameless soldier.

I still don’t understand why you are so determined to get me in a piano duel when you haven’t even heard or see me play yet. But since I’m feeling generous and like I said, this could be a potentially last letter … enclosed is a video I made with my roommate recording me. You said that you liked the Firebird Suite so hopefully, I didn’t botch your favorite up too much. Let me know what you think, personally, I’m heavily critical of my own performances.

Sorry if I’m jumping around on the piano too much, and for the questionable lighting.
