DRRM 101
Malabon City is a highly urbanized city in Metro Manila and known for an ancestral home that can be compared to Spanish houses. Also, it consists of 21 barangay. I picked and interviewed Barangay Concepcion since it is my home town about Disaster Risk Reduction Management.
Hazard Identification
Secretary Ryan Matalubos said that typhoons and floods affect Barangay Concepcion most especially when the rainy season. Floods are rising till the neck part of the normal height of a person. Yes, it is very dangerous, particularly some parts of Barangay Concepcion are low lying areas. According to the barangay official, the streets are most affected are Jacinto street, Ugnatan street, and Burgos street. I can say that Burgos street is a low lying area because I, myself, experienced this because it is my home street but the flood is most high in the back part of Burgos street.

They are well coordinated with City Reduction Management that is why typhoons or floods in Barangay Concepcion can be detected and can prevent immediately. Other hazards that affect the barangay are an earthquake but he said that these hazards do not much occur in our community because we are not that prone to it since we are at an urban place.
Vulnerability, Elements and People at Risk Assessment
From what I have said early, the most affected area of the Flood since Barangay Concepcion is prone to flood: Jacinto, Ugnatan, especially Burgos Street because these three streets are low lying areas.
He added that one of the reasons why barangay Concepcion is prone to floods even if there is a lot of pumping station was because we are surrounded by three different rivers from another city.
The most affected by the calamity is the children in terms of their education, the employee who can not go to their work because of the high tides and the resident can not go to different places because of floods. That is why Barangay Concepcion is very affected by floods, and typhoons. But the secretary mentioned that the safest place to evacuate is at the covered court near the barangay station because it is not a low area.

Lastly, he said that there is no problem in terms of the development of our community because they take action immediately and make a plan.
Capacity and Disaster Management Assessment
Regularly, resident of our barangay contributes their ideas because they are the one will benefit to the plan they give. They establish drills, programs such as training-seminars, and warning devices on every post and regular review of the contingency plan.

Country’s Disaster Situation
The Philippines is prone to hazards because we are within the Pacific Ring of Fire. Calamity hits the Philippines big time, it is hard to cope up. That is why there is DRRM101 or Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. This implement programs for the resident to lessen the impact on them and always prepared them on how to cope up with the disaster.
Realizations and Insights
From the interview and community walk, I realized that our community is maybe in a bad state because I believe that when a flood or tsunami occurs there is a possibility that our city will be 'under the sea' because it is at the low lying area. And the barangay official said that our evacuation place is at Intramuros, Manila. Yes, it is very far away and we can't change that because it is the official declared it.
Need to Address the Issue of Disasters
Disaster is maybe natural but we should not be unconcerned to this matter since our lives are on the line. We should address this issue by alarming the citizen of our country. And create a solid plan to be prepared for all the disaster will come to our country especially we are within the Pacific Ring of Fire. There will be a lot of hazards everywhere, and anytime.
Lastly,
Solution and Action
Being part of the community, I have to be prepared at all times because we can not tell when the disaster will happen. To make use of social media, I will spread awareness of the issue of Disaster in our community. And lastly, I will do best to contribute to the plan of our community for them to aware at all times.
