The Slytherin dormitory was practically silent, save for the scratch of Draco's quill and the occasional frustrated groan that escaped him whenever he forgot another potion ingredient.
You lay comfortably on his bed, half asleep.
Draco glanced over at you for what had to be the tenth time that evening. You hadn't moved an inch since he'd started studying.
"Are you going to study?"
"Probably not," you mumbled from your spot on his bed.
"Merlin, how are you not stressed? The O.W.L. exams are in a week!"
Draco exclaimed, staring at you in disbelief.
"I mean, I paid attention in class."
Draco's jaw nearly hit the floor. He stared at you for a few long moments, waiting for you to laugh and admit you were joking.
"I mean... isn't that how learning usually works?" you replied, your voice dripping with sarcasm.
Draco let out a defeated sigh, dragging a hand down his face.
"I've been studying for months, sweetheart."
"And yet you're the one stressing out."
You pushed yourself off the bed and wandered over to where he sat. Sliding your arms around his shoulders, you rested your chin lightly on the top of his head.
"I bet you'll pass with flying colors," you murmured. "You've reorganized your notes at least a thousand times, and you practically have every potion recipe ever written memorized. You'll be fine."
You felt his shoulders relax beneath your arms.
Reaching down, you gently closed the book in front of him.
"No more studying tonight."
He opened his mouth to argue before deciding it wasn't worth it. Instead, he let out another dramatic sigh.
"Come lie down with me. You can't spend hours studying without taking a break."
With one last reluctant glance at the pile of textbooks on his desk, Draco finally stood. You slipped your hand into his and led him back over to the bed.
Once you were both tucked beneath the blankets, Draco leaned over and blew out the candle that illuminated the small dormitory. Darkness settled around the two of you.
"You're impossible, you know that?" he murmured.
A smile tugged at your lips.
Draco huffed a quiet laugh, wrapping an arm around your waist.
"...Unfortunately."
You giggled softly, snuggling a little closer as your eyes drifted shut. Before long, the dormitory was silent once again, both of you asleep long before the forgotten textbooks ever had the chance to be reopened.
The Slytherin common room buzzed with energy as students received and compared their O.W.L. exam results.
All of your friends were crowded around the fireplace in the common room, about as nervous as everyone else to receive your results. Enzo sighed dramatically from his spot draped across the velvet green sofa closest to the fireplace while you, Draco, and Mattheo lounged on the longer sofa in the middle.
Draco sat beside you with one arm draped around your shoulders, absentmindedly tapping the parchment containing his results while Mattheo sighed for what had seemed to be the hundredth time that evening.
“Per l'amor del cielo, open it already!” Theo urged from his spot sitting at the base of Enzo’s chair.
Mattheo groaned. “I don't want toooo,” dragging out the o much longer than necessary.
“You failed, didn't you?” Blaise asked, far too amused, clearly finding fun in Mattheo’s dismay.
“Maybe, I don't know, man! Leave me alone! I can't afford to fail again,”
Mattheo griped. “You know what... fuck it.”
Mattheo quickly opened the parchment in his hands. His eyes scanned the page. Before anyone could ask, he threw himself face-first into the cushions, letting out a noise somewhere between a groan and a scream.
Draco leaned in and whispered in your ear, “Oh, he definitely failed.”
He leaned back up and looked over at Mattheo.
“Too much partying this year?”
Enzo let out a small laugh at Draco's remark.
“Yeah, Mattheo, you've got to stop the insane amount of partying you've been doing if you want to even think of passing any of your classes this year, mate.” Enzo quipped as Draco absentmindedly rubbed circles against your shoulder while Theo and Enzo argued.
Draco peeked over Mattheo’s shoulder.
Draco looked at the parchment.
“Draco!” Mattheo yelled, jumping up from the pillows he had just thrown himself at.
“What? You skipped half of Potions to go to Hogsmeade,” Draco argued.
“Yeah, mate, I'm struggling to find sympathy,” you giggled.
Mattheo suddenly got defensive.
“Oh yeah? And what did you score, Mrs. Perfect?”
You shrugged your shoulders and grabbed the parchment from your lap, opening it to reveal a near-perfect score. Draco glanced over and dropped his jaw in awe. Enzo rushed over from his spot on the couch and grabbed the parchment from your hold. “No, freaking, way.” Theo was immediately intrigued and followed in pursuit.
Once he reached the couch, he reached down and snatched the parchment from Enzo’s grip. "You've got to be joking!” Theo exclaimed.
“Let me guess she passed with flying colors.” Blaise said flatly while walking into the common room.
“How?” Mattheo asked in absolute disbelief.
“She always does this. She never studies, and then somehow passes with better scores than the rest of us,” Blaise said, plopping himself down on the small green sofa across from Enzo.
Everyone turned to stare at you.
“I mean... I paid attention in class.”
Mattheo threw himself back onto the couch with an exaggerated groan. Draco dropped his head into the crook of your neck, mumbling something incoherent under his breath. Theo dragged both hands down his face in defeat, while Enzo let out a loud, dramatic groan.
Meanwhile, all you did was smile.
