It’s about Bruce telling him he’s better than his friends and more competent and mature for his age and it’s about how the secrecy inherent to vigilantism is negated with the Titans via sharing identities and it’s about how if Bruce had his way Dick never would have told his friends his real name. It’s about the intentional obfuscation of what’s going on at home, it’s about the one member of the group who’s a mystery behind the lenses. It’s about how Dick stays at the hideout for hours after everyone’s else’s gone home. It’s about the other sidekicks, the ones that Dick should ostensibly blend right into, saying that Dick’s relationship with Bruce has always been a bit off. It’s about how Dick’s a core member of the team and yet just… kind of stands apart

so do we wanna talk about how in NTT Dick points to one of the main flaws in his upbringing being that he was taught not to be driven by emotions and to ignore his heart and he keeps talking about how this is something Bruce taught himself in the wake of his parent’s murder.
