"Varian...", Izuku said, his eyes pleading.

"I'm fine", Varian said through gritted teeth. Izuku shivered and pulled his own cloak tighter around himself.

"...Okay", Izuku said softly, a little sad. Varian noticed the tone of Izuku's voice before he finally took a good look at the green-haired boy. Izuku was freezing, but it also looked like he was in pain. Varian blew hot air into his hands (Oh, Sweet Sundrop, he misses his gloves) for a moment before he spoke again.

"Did you get hurt from that fall earlier?", Varian asked, concerned. Izuku weakly smiled at Varian.

"No, it's just the cold... it's...it kind of hurts, but I'll be fine", Izuku said, giving Varian another shakey smile. Varian furrowed his eyebrows before his eyes soften with realization. Varian recalled Izuku telling him about how One For All used to break his bones, and felt an overwhelming feeling of pity and guilt. Varian watches Izuku look at the wall next to him with that pained look, shuddering when wind blew through the crack again. Varian bit his tongue before he reluctantly spoke again.

"C-can you come over here, please?", Varian asked.

Varian: Hey, why'd you move?!

Zuko: I thought you were going to attack me.

Varian: I was going to hug you!

this entry was highly inspired by @bucketsfullofyou's really cool majestic cape idea for LO Varian and I'm so in love with it so ofc I wanna pay an homage to it!!

I also wanna shout out @elfand0m for sharing and exploring this idea with me as LO Varian's outfit (that Eugene commissioned/tailored just for him to wear) when he had his own ceremonial "debut" being officiated as a member of the royal family as "the jewel of the dark kingdom". (he couldn't wait for the whole thing to be over the whole time but thank god his best friend was there to keep him company at least) It was a really cute and fun idea and I absolutely loved it to bits
