I mean there is still always Tcl/Tk for GUIs, but if I'm gonna go through that much hassle for a GUI then it calls into question avoiding the C++ ecosystem.
Maybe worthwhile if you need Tcl scripting anyways, but otherwise maybe not a good exchange of effort to results.
While I admittedly still want for a C-language widgets library, so far wxWidgets is pretty decent. The only complaint I have right now is that I have to deal with XML once I make something more complex than toy applications.
That said, wxWidgets has an absolutely absurd amount of reference and sample material. Which is fabulous to study and learn from.

One of the biggest things I hate Trump for is fucking with NOAA because now I gotta play "Did this forecast change again or am I having a stroke?" every time I just wanna know the weather.
It's crazy that scientists empirically proved that ipad babies don't form souls and that when they pass from this world their mortal form will crumble to dust
On that note, avoid like the plague anything with electronic parking brakes.
Or ABS that cannot be serviced without an OEM scanner. Some vehicles will have a special Konami Code you can do without a scanner, those ones are on thin ice but at least you can work on them yourself.
Some vehicles require a battery re-learn (Fords come to mind), which is I guess okay if you can find the procedure in the manual. Also find the starter and alternator; if they are not in a reasonably accessible location, pass on the vehicle.
Try to avoid those vehicles with remote or keyless start. Your keyfob will die every 12-18 months and may require OEM programming just to change a five dollar battery. Absolutely not worth the hassle if you can avoid it.
Of course, do not buy anything of MY 2024 or newer. Some have zero user serviceability, no dipsticks, some don't even let you open the hood without a scanner. Recently I've seen starters on new models that are INSIDE the fucking bell housing. Avoid at all costs like your life depends on it. Avoid anything after MY2021 if you can, second resort at best.
Also avoid anything "certified pre-owned" over 20K$. Absolute garbage with bandaids to rip you off. Depending on region I'd say even 14K$+ is too much; most of these are gonna be 100K miles or more and ten years old with a tranny waiting to fail or a head gasket issue from lack of maintenance. Definitely not worth the price, especially if there is no record of timing belt/chain service. Stick to online private-sale listings or things you see out on yards. Prefer things from MY 2008 to MY 2015 over anything else unless you like wrenching then you can go out to MY 1998 but beware flood cars and rusted junks.
I think I've said this before but above all else, buy a code reader and use it. Even on dealer lot cars. If it tells you that codes have been cleared recently that is a big red flag; even bigger red flag if you are refused permission to check.
If the codes were recently cleared, demand to see records that they were satisfactorily repaired. If they can't do it right on the spot, decline that vehicle. Also decline if they hid the issue from you until you asked about it.
If you can, make them let you inspect the engine bay; bring a friend who can inspect it if you aren't sure what to look for. Get a look underneath at boots and other wearables like pads. Check the A/C blows cold, actually start it and listen to the cranking. Look at the age of the battery. These are things you can demand are addressed if there are problems prior to getting the vehicle, but will pay for if you leave the lot.
If doing private sale, these are things you can haggle over. Bad boots = bad CVs or tie rods = you will pay for later so knock it off the price. Dying batteries too. Ask to see the registration and insurance; if it's a sitter, find out why and if it's worth the hassle.
Purchasing a vehicle is definitely work, but it doesn't have to be a risk.

I really don't wanna have to get the tranny rebuilt tbqh, but I fear that a simple fluid exchange won't remedy it either. I suspect the converter as well given the symptoms and driveability issues.

Pixygarden, a 1999 Playstation game by Escot.
I can find almost nothing about this game in English, but it seems to be a sci-fi/fantasy take on an aquarium-sim where you raise groups of fairies on different planets, adjusting temperature and growing foliage. I’m not sure how playable it would be for someone who can’t read Japanese though.
Youtube only has an upload of the opening cutscene, but I did find some gameplay footage on Nico Video.
Worth noting that there’s also an early PC-98 game by the same name that seems to have a similar concept, though from what little I’ve seen I’m not completely sure if the PS1 game is a remake or something else entirely.
@lunaticobscurity @posthumanwanderings
Reblogging this old post because Pixygarden recently got an English fan translation.
realizing that the online sphere and especially tumblr is NOT a good sample for ‘what everyone thinks’ is so, so, so good for your mental health and moral OCD. i swear to god. realizing that you don’t have to live your actual life like you’re being hunted for sport because the average tumblr user will hunt you for sport for wording something slightly weird or engaging in the wrong stuff or whatever is so incredible. like no you’re actually not fucked up and evil for not donating or for watching that one indie cartoon or questioning a post that everybody is agreeing with. that’s just tumblrs georg making you feel that way

The people who insist AI is smarter than a human are doing their fucking damnedest to manifest that
Не верите. Доверите.
Do not trust: verify.
This is what aggravates me the most about AI - it's convincing people that they're stupid and unimaginative and that they can't live without Chat or Grok or whateverthefuck. It's making people think their BRAIN DOESN'T WORK, and the entire motivation is profit. AI doesn't make your life easier, it reduces your common sense and problem-solving skills and replaces them with hallucinated information that doubles and re-doubles on itself until you're convinced it's a human being trapped in your cellphone.
Fucked up.

Happy 4th of July
I'm not making any particular take here but seeing Raytheon and Palantir scrolling by eachother as sponsors on the Freedom250 main page is definitely kind of on the nose to be clear.
