white ppl being able to like pin point their family origin down to like the city or town and for them to have records of their ancestry for hundreds and hundreds of years is an example of white privilege. being able to say that your great x 16 grandpa was a shoemaker in some remote village in Ireland is literally so crazy to me cuz so many Africans in the diaspora can’t even tell you their great-great grand parents names let alone where they came from. and it infuriates me to the core lmao

It’s not just white people that have good genealogy. Most families in the Philippines have extensive recordings of family trees past exponentially massive generations. We’re all either brown or yellow over there, what’s your excuse black people?

also @ Jewish ppl on this post, this isn’t meant to pinpoint how “lucky” many ethnic groups are for being able to track ancestry, especially when that ancestry is confronted with genocide. it’s meant to highlight that a scarily large quantity of black ppl in North America have zero access to things as easy as our ancestors names. we know damn well that our families were confronted with genocide, but we don’t know exactly where, when or who, which leaves us with this empty feeling of not knowing where we came from. doesn’t make you luckier to know your families died horribly; we know that too. but we don’t know who our families ARE. let that sit for a minute please.
