(‘Accidentally reported you’ scam)

So it’s just another day on tumblr when a beloved mutual suddenly DMs you (or a random stranger) claiming that someone impersonated you and has scammed them out of $900 be it art or crypto or because of content related to CP. They tell you they’ve accidentally reported you by mistake and that the only way to clear up this issue is to contact someone on discord. They even show a screenshot claiming your account was reported for fraudulent activity and action must be taken within 24hrs or else your blog will be terminated. You just need to contact the “official” report dispute discord account in a timely manner and clear everything up!

You panic! You don’t want to lose your blog so you immediately DM the discord account who begins asking you questions before ultimately asking you to change your email address to theirs so they can ‘fix’ the flag on your account. All is well, and you assume that the false report is going to be cleared up…Right?

Unfortunately no. That’s not what happens.

You get locked out of your account and now the scammer logs in as you and starts to send the same message to anyone and everyone they find. The same message that now you accidentally reported the receiver and you need them to contact the same discord account to repeat the same process over and over again and you yourself seem to have no way of accessing your blog to stop the phishing. But don’t fear! You can fix this! Just contact the real support email and let them know you’ve been hacked and give them any information they may ask to confirm your the real owner of the blog.

Here are things to keep in mind:

- There is no official report dispute discord account ran by tumblr that isn’t a thing and has never been.

- Any discord account claiming to an official tumblr report dispute staff account is a scammer.

- You do not need to ever contact Discord for a tumblr related issue no matter how official the screenshot looks.

- This scam can affect anyone, even your friends. Keep them informed and if you can contact them offsite to let them know they’ve been hacked please do so they can get their account back faster.

Is it not damning that this website is less safe for transfem people than the Nazi bar that is Twitter? Is it not damning that this website is overwhelmingly white? Is it not damning that people are harassed, banned and marked as "mature content" with no recourse or explanation? Is it not damning that the owner of Tumblr harassed a user on other websites?

Tumblr is long overdue for another lawsuit. Please submit any and all examples of discriminatory bans and "mature" hypocrisy; it will be archived off-site. Please also follow @find-my-mutuals for mutual recovery, because who knows who it will happen to next.

We cannot ensure not a single instance of Tumblr's incessant racism and transmisogyny is tacitly allowed.

What I mean is framing the entire concept of transness around, "transness is the barrier to me getting to be the cis-looking person I should have been all along" (instead of transness as the avenue to be the person your want) or "here is a biological cause for transness that proves I'm really x all along" or "here is how I'm actually exactly like my cis counterpart" or "I wish I could be happy as a girl but unfortunately I am betraying womanhood to become a man" or "I was tainted by being born a boy and now I have to spend forever proving I'm not like that anymore/never was that to begin with" or the idea that no step of transition shy of cis-passing life is "good" or the idea that passing as cis is the one and only goal or that transness is defined BY suffering and the more you suffered the more trans that makes you

I understand that transition is not pleasant for many, but this is because of how society treats trans people, not that to be trans is some sort of curse we need to tolerate to become the true selves we were denied by being born wrong

"I always knew" "I was always x" "I'm just the same as x (and that's why I deserve to be treated like a person, unlike the others)"

I am sorry to everyone that transition is not easy, is not always fun, is not always safe, is not always possible. But I'm not sorry that I'm trans. I don't wish I was born something else. I don't wish I could have skipped all of this. I wish other people's reactions had been different. I wish I didn't have to explain myself so much. But I'm glad I'm trans. I would not have discovered myself otherwise.

I hate the way I was and am treated, but it is not inherent to transness. This does not have to be the norm. I do not wish I wasn't trans, I wish people were not transphobic. And that is THEIR fault, not mine, not other trans people's.

I know this sentiment is most prevalent in those who are freshly out--it makes sense--but that's another reason why that sort of voice is not "leading" trans movements, you've really only just begun.
