like when you find an old notebook of yours, and feel a strange distance from what younger-you wrote or drew. but then the thought of discarding it feels weird, too. . and hey, there's some perfectly good pages left, so maybe it'll make sense to put something on 'em someday. might as well return it to wherever you found it. except, it's the internet. . i may be generalizing a very personal kind of notebook experience here. anyway, here's an old blog with perhaps some random new additions sometimes.

one year ago today, i was flying home from new orleans after visiting so many beautiful places and spending time with quite a few wonderful people all along the eastern united states.

one year ago today, a lot was different. i certainly would not have predicted the year that has passed, which seems like a decent reminder to stop trying to predict the year to come.

also it’s kind of just pretty strange to think about. i took a lot of photos on that trip, most of which have not been (and more than likely will never be) seen by anyone else. i have hardly even looked at them myself.

but, here’s a photo from a plane to add to your life’s viewings of plane photos. it says mostly nothing about that trip, but i enjoyed the clouds and the colors.

i am not quite sure what it is about this guy, but his compositions always get me. it seems to be an effect where the imagery is there -- i see roughly what he is depicting -- but still more a mood or feeling comes across than any firmly defined scene. there is such excellent space to fill in or imagine the surrounding details, both in senses and in circumstance, while appreciating the beauty of a scene and mood that has already been set.
