It's so bad and I love it. I spent several years playing through Guild Wars 1 with an Assassin character and when GW2 was announced I was all for the profession. I have always liked the idea of out-manoeuvring an opponent and having exactly what you needed to turn the tide in your favour (does the class actually play like that? No. But the vibes are there)

I spent a year very casually playing GW2 (on a laptop that could barely run it) when it came out and very slowly getting to max level (it took probably another year or two to get around to maxing out my other character's levels).

Mechanically, thief almost works. The system to let you choose what your global cool down is spent on that is different to every other profession's weapon skill is so fun for fast and frantic play and going in bouts of getting into position and spamming damage and then retreating and repositioning again (but it turns out PVE gameplay really punishes an on-and-off combat style since none of the traits want you to stop fighting or have synchronised activations that would support such a spiky approach, PVP and WVW are good for that though).

braham is a good character and his depiction of grief is very realistic, so is caithe and her actions are understandable if you take more than five minutes to digest the lore of HoT;

even the worse parts of the gw2 writing is leagues better than a good chunk of AAA games y'all just don't engage with the story on any level beyond complaining on Reddit;

the human-charr wars were messy but the overarching point is it was human genocidal colonization from top to bottom that caused it, from abbadon puppeting the flame legion into making the charr a misogynistic theocracy to gwen thackeray inspiring generations of bloodlust against charr to the point of her being a literal boogeyman in charr mythos;

you're not supposed to view the wizards and the astral ward as always morally correct it is in fact a huge part of the text that they will do stupid shitty things and your involvement is sorting through them and keeping them from doing it again, which you would've known if you spent more than five minutes thinking about SoTO and doing something other than oggling peitha without considering her actual character and story impact;

the asura are indeed a deeply racist society while still being targets of deeply ingrained racism by humans and charr, this is not a contradiction this is how a lot of real life societies are across our literal globe, please consider the nuances before I, an asura main and enthusiast, rip your head off.
