yelena's cameo in bnd is not just a fun look into her life as an avenger. it shows her character development.
from the time the red room took her and till she got her mind back, she had her autonomy taken away from her and was used as a tool to do terrible things.
yet yelena at her core is a leader and a hero. we know that as a child she wanted to be the one her soccer team could rely on. and then when she got her mind back, she wanted to liberate other widows.
but bc of years of brainwashing, she doubted that she could be a hero any longer and thought that there was something wrong with her. like, she was so lost and depressed and alone when she got her mind back.
and then, through thunderbolts, she finally remembered that feeling of being the one who made the room bright. bc they trusted her to lead them out of darkness.
and now, we see her embrace that purpose and role with confidence and joy. she is the happiest she has ever been being an avenger. amongst the people who rely on her, doing the work she loves.
i think even her being so research focused is such a good way of showing her embracing her freedom through exploration, you know?
i appreciate it so much that bnd shows yelena loving being an avenger focusing on big important hero work!
she embraces her role as a leader and is wise even when funny and flirtatious! bright as ever!
okay, so, rivals is a lot of fun and i love the countryside setting and i missed the whole messy drama genre.
but man, why is no one talking about how lacking the writing for the female characters is? i mean, in the show's defense, it's not like the male characters are complex or anything, but they are at least allowed their povs and agency. meanwhile, the female characters are just blank walking stereotypes who get tossed around by the men's whims.
and all the romantic relationship dynamics are heteronormative and cliche without any introspection or subversion to the point of ridiculousness.
i have an issue with the take that toph being masc while liking dudes is wrong.
like, generally speaking, why are we treating masculinity in women who like men as some dirty stain or a rot? why does femininity have to be the one humanizing and dignifying trait for women? and why are we validating the idea that all women who are into men have to be submissive, softer, receptive and nurturing?
i hate how the discourse around female characters is reduced to "they should be allowed femininity." bc it's basically substituting "femininity" for "female," in a sense that it perpetuates bio-essentialism. sure, that sentiment can be relevant with some female characters, but it is not like if a female character is not feminine that's somehow bad.

started watching rivals s1 and wonder if i'm the only one who likes cameron x patrick.
like, i'm so starved for older confident woman x younger yearner man ships...
that hand caressing galadriel is definitely sauron's, i think.
not only bc she looks distressed, but also bc she is lying down on fancy cushions, if you pay attention. and i doubt that celeborn's cell would have those, lol.
it's also insane just how alike sauron and celeborn look. i have a whiplash each time i see celeborn and realize that it's not sauron.
y'all, i'm not really up to date for trop bc i don't feel that invested anymore after burning out, but i'm still curious what's going on?
i've seen so many people being disappointed in the tags but watching the trailer, it looks like galadriel actually still has a significant role, maybe even bigger than in s2? and she seems in a battle mode as opposed to just sitting around in her realm. her relationship with sauron is teased too and i think it's kind of interesting that celeborn was casted to look so alike sauron.
everyone is like, "oh, what should nolan's next movie be about? what is there left for him to touch upon?"
my vote is for a big epic fantasy with all the beloved hero's journey tropes but with a female protagonist.

finally am writing my first yelena x bucky fic!
yelena will be paired up in a friends with benefits dynamic with johnny storm and enemies with tension dynamic with pointdexter too!
summary: Yelena and Bucky share a complicated history. The one Bucky doesn’t really remember. Now sharing a team and living together in the Watchtower, their dynamic is no less complicated, with each having developed layered feelings towards the other prior to and at the time of them being Thunderbolts.

a lot of theories regarding the in-universe origins of the backrooms, but i think the oldest reference the movie itself hints at is plato's allegory of the cave.
there is the sun imagery connected to the place and the whole theme. and the backrooms itself is yellow like a sun/fire-lit place would be, but its a "wrong" yellow.
and just like the yellow, everything there is "wrong" since they're simply replicas of the real world and truth, therefore those are "shadows."
the issue i haven't seen anyone point out when talking about supergirl underperforming is that the whole "overpowered main in a cosmic setting" theme is unappealing for most people right now.
there are several reasons for this, but it's especially the current cultural climate that alienates the audiences from this sort of fantasy, if it makes sense?
yes, people are looking for escapism, but it has to be balanced with something grounding as well. no one really relates to the inhumanly powerful characters who roam the universe with no care, no connections, ect. this theme feels both too unreachable and too isolating.
which is why i think focusing on a cosmic saga after secret wars would be a mistake for the mcu as well.
boblena fam, you guys should watch finding emily. it's a new romcom movie and it's giving the modern/collage au boblena, trust!
"rhaenyra triumphant" was a great episode thematically and tonally and i wish the whole show was this tight.
but i also have to mention that having her menstruate to show her struggle to be mentally sharp while politicking was really unnecessary.

just got screamed by some anon for saying that while i'm tired of the male-centric superhero media, i liked masters of the universe.
according to them, i'm not allowed to mention how our media is male-centric and how that's an issue. mind you, i was actually hyping said movie, but all they took away from that positive post was that i was being a "childish woke"...
goes to show you how misogynistic our media and fandom landscape still is. yeah, nothing wrong with liking the male-centric content, but the fact that it has been dominating the mainstream culture is the issue. having the female-centric hero media is important not only for women to see themselves as heroes, but for men to learn to emphasize with women as equals too.
masters of the universe was so fun and full of whimsey, why is there not more hype for this movie?!
like, i'm tired of the male-centric superhero content, but this one feels refreshing and colorful and endearingly funny. the movie has its funky visual and tonal identity. he-man is hot and cute and i also love the dynamic between him and teela, it's the kind of romance that works imo and doesn't feel heteronormative.
