Her better that she claimed she was to her friends and projected online, was a lie. In actuality, she's been worse and had the holidays to blame for it. At this point, her day-to-day was mapped out differently. A new workout routine, skin regimen, and café that she was now standing in.
Everywhere else that was once deemed theirs was nothing but ghost-loitered reminders of what they once were. Memories now frozen in time, threatening to rip the air out of her lungs. She knew it all too well, because she tried it once. Chrissy attempted to go to their old Whole Foods - only to run out of there like her life depended on it; A fight or flight response to save herself from the good 'ole days when the person she loved wholeheartedly, loved her the same.
Furniture was thrown out, along with various products and knick-knacks around her apartment. It was her apartment now. Even if she wished it wasn't. And this café? Well, she deemed it hers; a nice little sanctuary after her workout at barre class. It was evident through her messy bun, cotton wrap top that hugged the leotard underneath her ballet pants. The young woman shifted her weight between her feet, her arms crossing over her chest. When it was winter in New York, there was no escaping the cold - even underneath her grey North Face.
Standing in line for her usual strawberry matcha, she felt particularly cold on her legs. As opposed to blaming the attire, she looked to see who just opened the front door and welcomed the cold air in. To her shock, it was Benji. Her eyes met theirs, and that was it. There was nowhere to hide, no taking her presence back. They were there, and it crushed her like a ton of bricks.
"Hey Benj - Benji -" The blonde corrected herself, shaking her head at her mistake. They weren't necessarily at a level to utilize nicknames, yet how he said her full name caused a tickle in her brain since it sounded like velvet coming from them.
"How are you?" She took a deep breath, trying to still her frantic heart before giving him one of her signature smiles. It was hard not to smile in his presence, even after everything that went down.
