pick your arse up and finish what you started

Ok my favorite genre of show/movie that I haven't seen made in a decade is so back. I apologize to all who take their favorite stories seriously and will scoff at me comparing them to this, but. The Artful Dodger somehow has EVERYTHING. It's Titanic [charming blonde swindler of a sailor named Jack Dawkins played by none other than Thomas Brodie-Sangster falls head over heels in love with spoiled Governor's daughter whose secret brilliance, naivety and kind mind is hindered by her mother and completely overlooked? Check]. It's Pirates of the Caribbean [other, old drunkard crook of a swindler played by none other than David Thewlis chatters like a pirate and can talk his way out of anything? Check]. It's Pride and Prejudice [kind, dark, handsome gentleman inspector who looks like he strides through misty fields at sunup, doesn't talk much and walks on a cane - check!]. It BEATS Benedict Bridgerton ["I won't be your mistress" - "you wouldn't be" - "then what would I be" - "my BELOVED" also they actually just full on play Cheap Thrills by Sia at the fancy dinner party instead of choosing the string version - check!]. It's Australia 2008 ["it was never your land to begin with" and blonde Governour's daughter is eventually faced with reality and loses her posh attitude - check]. It's the BBC's musketeers [epic justified shootouts with explosives and they literally use the same tavern as a set - check]. AND it's also a whumpy medical drama with the doctor having to evade arrest and the noose at every corner because Idk OBX levels of young, poor people surviving, being blamed, and sonstantly being suspected of murder while having a forbidden love going on. And all of this somehow works to create something entirely original, mainly because of it all taking place in an Australian colony which is an underexplored dynamic as a land being occupied with convicts, because doctors are not well-standing but poor there, and because of Fanny, a darling dearest who is just excellent and having way too much fun at her newly found career of con artistry, and because of Hetty, who I do not have words for because she is the best of them and she works the hardest of them all and saves their butts and HOW does she get unnoticed like that. This in itself is a crime.

Thought I'd share this again, since this show absolutely deserves a season 2!!! Anyone who hasn't watched it yet should do it immediately, it's so good!! 🔥

Oh no.....

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how easy and enjoyable to watch The Artful Dodger is? And I don’t mean in a mindless, plotless sense, but in a not over complicated, sensible/ logical writing, no shock factor for the hell of it sense.
