The Millenial Magic
I often feel like we grew up in the perfect chaos of the rise of the World Wide Web. We were 11, maybe even 13 and had to learn how to navigate an online space that was coming up with ways to trick people almost as fast as we were learning to spot them. Our parents couldn’t help, they weren’t quick enough learners. In the time they’d figured out the problem, we’d found five solutions.
We learned how to tell if a website link was most likely legitimate or not, we learned shortcuts to closing browser windows as popups began their march across the web, fake emails and chain letters, false videos, we saw and conquered it all.
And now all this AI stuff. I can’t express my frustration enough. I see people genuinely believing that there’s a tiny rock cottage by the ocean despite the fact the shadows are wrong, the “pool” is about a foot deep, there’s no interior furniture that makes sense and a lawn chair neatly placed right in front of the door. Or the ice cream/drinks that clearly have syrup running through the glass or gravity defying sprinkles.
I think we grew up in the perfect storm. It taught us how to spot and avoid the bolts of lightning.
