what went well:

I planned efficiently and tested everything to ensure that it worked, i had concierns about form which i worked around and made sure they wouldnt be a problem such as the folded pages in the magzine being a tiny bit short to accomodate the cutting of the pages in the guilitine to not get cut apart.

used lots of university services in order to better my project and professsionalism such as time keeping and professional/workplace appeearance

i made designs that are cleaner than I typically do and achieved making somethin editorial

I researched extremely thouroughly, then took my own photos, edited them, research the information for the articles and put it all together , most of which were not things I had done much before.

thought about userbility and interactivity of the mpa as well as and thought about my audience, however maybe my audiance could have been more specific in the future

what i thought the project was going to be and how its turned out. i thought the project was going to be something editorial once i began actually doing my project, once i stated i felt like tit wasnt going in a way i felt reflected what i wanted to do in the first place, and even though the outcome is different to how i invisigned in the begining i think it respinds to my research well and all of the design choices were made for a reason.

final concept - does it fit the brief? overall i think that the concept fits the brief since it encourages people to do something a bit different and if they get the magazine theyre less likely to be looking to social media and taking the same photos of everyone else,

what I would improve upon doing it again:

small details within the magazine such as exact same space between shapes and words, they are very similar since they align to the grid but some look smaller than others.

I wanted to make the process book monochromatic like my project which was my orional plan, however, this woud mean that i couldnt talk about colour within research which would defeat the point

find other ways to improve readbility of text

the cover is more faded becuase of the large format printer, there isnt much i can do about this would it would be better if it wasnt.

printing was a big more washed out and changed the colours, the printeres were not printing things correctly

would i go anywhere differently? I would have liked to go to lots of locations, but i think overall this location worked, maybe i could have done some stops on the northern line since thats very busy, but picadilly is busy for tourists and close to soho, and my research led me to that decision

changing the colours- maybe i would hosse different colour, blue for chapter one as well as oposied to chaptr 2 , pink depite being chosen becuase of research may seem a bit rnaodm, maybe i should have chosen a more obious colour, whih ch was the point in picking it but maybe it seems incohesive and not like a design choice.

cover meaning:

end of uni journey, start of new journey, chapter one of new journey and the contrast of last of this one, the back and front flaps on arms are arbout the starts and the end of it

dust cover meaning - linked to project, the secret inside , you have to look or you wont find, about looking for hidden gems etc

meaning of statements on arms - its the statements about ending on starting a new one, linked to the adventures in magazine

why the image is like it is - frosted, way out, cant see what it will be like, but can see elemeents, and its reflective

The back ground is misaligned meaning I had to try to find a way to problem solve this

I will make a whole page of the background so no matter where the front is it will be okay

It's going to be useful to practice the folding technique

the inserts that are folded and small would be made bigger, but this is applying all the changes that i wanted to have within the magazine after the tutorial, the only other thing would be to have the first page saying take me on your adventure and holding the map in a different way , also making sure the inside cover is how i want it. I need to check the leading on the title pages is equal. So i changed it the to same leading. I also need to make the insert conform .

I changed the leading throughout the magazine and found that some then clashed and had to change them individually, i reduced the sizes of the symbols however, i think some of them got a bit lost, I made sure that they now have the same weight as the shapes, but they got really lost and you couldnt see them, so i reduced it to be as similar as possible without being lost

i changed the indents to be paragrapahs instead becuase the indents sometimes made uneasy spaces which i didnt like and paragraphs i felt made it easier to read.

i moved titles and rearranged to have more freedom and also avoid clashing with the titles and stuff that have moved like the page furtniture , i tried to change the pages so it can be made less uneasy

blue to represent the blue that is picadilly line, maybe i should have gone for a darker blue upon reflecton but i wanted to make it all easy to read and see the contrast of roads and street names and also the location pins

slightly rebellious, a system but one that is broken a little bit with thought, for example, the over-spilling text onto the other side, not typical for editorial, the broken images, font and also colours throughout but especially at the start and each set of chapter pages, it is done in a more underground/punk/rebellious style since this appeals to those more likely to be adventurous but also piques interest since it seems exciting and like a rebellion against social media and travel conventions which it is, also taking a gamble on a vending machine magazine is also quite rebellious.

Additionally, designing the cover makes you question why a random man with neon green is on the front, but it intrigues readers when they see hidden gems to want to know more and read to find out who he is and what his story is.

front covers quite simple so that you have to be willing to take that gamble and not know what it may encourage you to do and what adventure to follow

I also had redesigned my map so that it opens and shuts easier

I tested different kinds of pockets and wanted to play into the thought of having something that easily fitted into your pocket and went wtith my design, So I used a pocket as a pocket since I felt this added interest. but this means it opens easier and has to have a belly band, i desinged the cover so it would fi, a problem i encountered was that the belly band comes off the map in the pocket, so I stuck a tamper sticker on the map.

for some pages moving Piccadilly worked well, this was in response to my tutoril and some advice there, i had orgionally constructed the page to be framed by this, however, this does work for the top, just not the bottom, so i decided not to change the issue 1 number page furniture becuase it no longer framed the page well and instead left an empty corner which was against the design rules

but for most pages moving the issue number clashed alot

I wanted to have something that turns but also contributes to being a bookzine style magazine, more like eye magazine, but then also still feels like a magazine more, not too heavy

the map also needs to be foldable and not too big, sits closed still etc.

I did origionally want a textured paper, however some of the ink smudged and even though i felt textured origonally felt moer off the beaten track, smooth suggests that it has more behind what you origionally see which is also a nice connotation, but its not glossy so much as its matte.

didnt want to go for central since thats the busiest becasue of st Pancras

wanted to go for one that had unique factors - covent garden to leicester sqaure less than 300m yet still very popular, shortest distamnce between tube stops making it more walkable

connected to more travel options, airports etc , makes it easier for people coming into the city

target audience people who want to explore more and have probably done the main things and want to see something a bit deeper and more interesting. not people who live there persay
