To sum up: DOJ is requesting info that is protected by privacy laws. They want to “help” states “clean up” (I.e., remove voters) the voter rolls. Their proposed time line for this clean up may violate an existing law. There are also doubts about the accuracy of the database DOJ uses to check voter eligibility. Courts have already ruled against the DOJ’s claim they have a legal right to this info and there’s at least one lawsuit to prevent a state from handing over the info.

Not mentioned in the article: Bondi isn’t in charge of ICE. She hasn’t actually made any promises to rein in ICE. The letter is a list of demands and nothing offered in return except that things will be better once everyone quietly obeys.
