random idle thought as i do chores and like posting it here because i would rather die than google this stuff but like
has "proship" as a term ever meant anything other than "i think no one should get mad when i uwufy and/or jork it to abuse"? because i feel like the majority i see use it that way but i have definitely seen outliers who genuinely believe it's about defending dark, nuanced relationship depictions for storytelling purposes (...frankly i think calling that "shipping" is twee and self-reductive at best, but i digress) and i once saw someone insisting it had nothing to do with explicitly abusive dynamics at ALL and condemned those who used it tjat way.
so like... was there ever an "original" version of this term that got mutated into the abuse apologia smokescreen it gets used as now, or like are the people interpreting it more charitably just too optimistic for their own good??
