The world of 2099 (Earth 928) is a cyberpunk dystopia and the distant future of 616. North America is a corporate police state ruled by a few huge megacorporations, most notably Alchemax, which owns the private police force the Public Eye (which primarily punishes criminals' bank accounts). There were, prior to the launch of the comics, no active superheroes in this world, and the previous heroes were mythologized through religion, as with the Church of Thor. The present-day 616 Marvel continuity is referred to as the "Age of Heroes," which abruptly ended in a catastrophe a century before that set back society.

In the 2099 Universe, the monetary currency system uses implants commonly known as cards, which are credit ID implants. There are aluminum, gold, and platinum cards. Another type of card is a black cards, which give the owner unlimited funds and legal immunity. - There is also a status known as "decred", which denies access to many public places, such as hospitals, hypermarkets, and shopping malls.

Since New York was destroyed before the Age of Heroics, the city was rebuilt upward. Nueva York was built on the bones of "old" New York, causing a massive class divide between the wealthy "Uptown" and disenfranchised "Downtown."

Upper-level streets have magnetic roads that allow cars to float. Some cars have features called maglocks that allow users to switch from magnet tracks to wheels

Advanced science has made space travel fairly communal. Those with the means of travel can take a highway to the moon and travel between planets at the appropriate docking stations. You just need enough money and the right gear to make the trip.

Doom is president here, but no one's sure if it's the original Victor Von Doom or if he's an imposter. (Too scared to ask)

Pollution has affected the environment to the point where the rain is acidic/there's no ozone layer

Cigarettes and printer ink are illegal since they've been found to cause cancer

There is no longer a Super Bowl or World Series in 2099

Any smaller companies outside of Alchemax/Stark-Fujikawa/Cobalt Chemicals are called "Indys."

Zombies exist, there's a colony living on a moon out in space waiting to be cured of their condition

Vampires exist, they have a colony with Dracula - also out in space

There are several cults throughout the Downtown area, most notably the Thorites who worship Thor and the old ways. There are those led by 2099's Vulture and the Spiderites. People who believe Miguel/Spider-Man to be the harbinger of Thor, who will bring a return to the heroic age. They're often seen dressed like Spider-Man and pretending to be him. (Despite his best continued effort in telling them all to go home)
