why should anyone defend him? he's a grown ass man wearing the confederate flag. a symbol that promotes racism, slavery and white supremacy. he doesn't need defending, he needs rewiring.
whether he's ignorant, uneducated, or self-sabotaging is none of my concern. for someone like mark lee, who has always come across as an intelligent and thoughtful individual, i don’t find ignorance to be a compelling argument. but maybe that's just me.
i'm not even going to entertain the pathetic attempt at an "apology" that was posted (on a story, mind you, and not even on his personal account). fuck that. do better.
by all means, i'm not owed an apology and i'm not important in this situation. however, i do believe that what was posted was impersonal, insufficient and lacked direct accountability, which is so disrespectful to all the people who do deserve this apology. that's just my personal opinion, which i expect won't be everyone's cup of tea, but oh well.
i’m someone who has openly praised and supported mark for ten years now, and yes, i still recognise his hard work and dedication but i simply refuse to stand/make excuses for something that goes against basic human rights.
so, to put it plainly, i will not be posting about him moving forward (except for the next few asks sitting in my inbox) because that just doesn't align with my morals or personal beliefs. he’s no longer someone i can support.
if anyone who follows me disagrees with this decision, that's absolutely fine. you're more than welcome to unfollow me. i'm not here to convince or offend anyone, nor will i be offended if people don't see my point of view.
