the difference between the jp script and eng localization is kind of still jarring to me— eng localization leans more and more into goofy side and rly takes the "clown" thing way too far, whilst in jp he is crazy not in goofy way, but like batshit crazy, like calculating maniac crazy... even though he does have a few sides in bw which he often switches, that are noticeable in the way he talks, what obv was disregarded in translation... the way he addresses self by using "boku-chin", when the threat level escaltes... like i get it, with Dissidia games and other collabs, jp adopted some of popular western interpretations of him, it still kinda rubs me the wrong way when ppl treat him like "your regular silly clown man hee-hee", when he is anything but— like name me another villain who ACTUALLY SUCCEDED in what they wanted to achieve... kefka did destroy the world (not that it made him happier, but it's topic for another post)... like everyone in ff fandom is riding sephiroth's dick, as the "best" villain... but he is so overused in promotions and ads, he is like glorified doll atp... and when it comes to actually being a "good villain", he miserably fails... you can love him and it's not an atk on him, but he is srsly overused and im just eternally complaining bout eng localization in ff games that ruin impression of characters and the delivery :| who even let these ppl translate things, when they change original names like it's nothing, when they add whole meanings and sentences that were never in original script :| like back to sephibroth, in jp script you can see EXACTLY when it's him speaking or jenova, cause he is switching bw the ways he addresses self, but there was NO attempt to deliver this very significant detail in localization :| anyway, i love my chaos clown and im compelled to do smth illegal and scandalous, it's one of those days

Does Chongyue rate on the Just Some Guy spectrum at all, considering how much work he’s put into not being Sui-related?
Chongyue doesn’t exist in the Just Some Guy spectrum in a way we’ve discussed yet, even though he has some overlap, because ultimately his essence conflicts with Some Guyhood on a fundamental level (of what has been discussed in Just Some Guy academia so far at least).
Just Some Guys all have the desire, and sometimes the expertise, to actually come across as Some Guys. Chongyue is a centuries old famed invincible general, title of Grandmaster, whose upcoming retirement is great news among leaders and figures of the highest authority and caliber. Chongyue is basically a celebrity and national hero. Chongyue is Mister Satan from Dragon Ball Z if Mister Satan had those Goku dukes and was actually able to throw hands with the biggest, meanest threats, and also a whole deal more humble, but the point is, man’s beyond notorious. Chongyue is A Guy, not Just Some Guy.
I understand where this sentiment comes from! He’s sealed the Sui consciousness and his true name into his sword, and this isn’t public knowledge, plus, he insists he only knows a little Kung Fu. The thing is, he is technically not wrong about his statement and he truly means it. He’s not trying to obfuscate, and this is a key part of Some Guyhood, he puts it in very laconic but pristine terms to Ling: He considers himself pretty average comparatively, considering the sheer amount of years he’s had to practice and master the martial arts, and confidently says that, were others to have the same set of tools he had, such as natural power and longevity, then anyone could achieve the level he’s at. He’s truly humble and honest about it in a way that is simply outside the scale of most other creatures in Terra to be able to relate to. Of course, this doesn’t mean he’s any less of a one man triple army able to decimate pretty much any quality or quantity of enemies with his martial prowess, but he’s not really underplaying it as much as he’s saying “no yeah but if you had the amount of time I had to grind out these sick spinkicks, you’d also be able to do this”. He’s the Soul Level 846 Chosen Undead that one-shots Kalameet three times over with one R2, and then doesn’t tell you “Oh, no no, it was an accident, haha! Oops!” the way Mr. Nothing would, Chongyue would instead say “Ok you might have found that impressive, but if YOU were Soul Level 846, you could very much do this as well! :)” and he means it! Just because Chongyue can 1cc Super Monkey Ball 2 doesn’t mean he’s particularly exceptional in his eyes, it simply means that it’s the only game he’s ever had for the last 400 years and, if you also played SMB2 for 400 years, you too could land the selfsame sick bounces into goals.
Now, you might be thinking, “wait, that could make him a Jaye of some sort, right?” Not quite! Jaye is truly convinced he’s unexceptional, hell, being exceptional in any way has not even crossed his mind, Jaye lives day to day acutely unaware that he has direct ties to both men you could consider the leaders of Lungmen. Chongyue is well aware that he’s a Sui fragment, and this, he hides, though less with the sundering desperation of someone who REALLY doesn’t want to be found out (like Nothing), and more like someone who’s got responsibilities to uphold, but if it ends up spilling out that he’s a Sui fragment, simply goes “Oh, it seems you know, alright,” and then take the appropriate action depending on what’s the most sensible road to take. Mr. Nothing and Sesa go out of their way to act like buffoons and charlatans for the express purpose of obfuscating their respective masteries, Chongyue has no qualms publicly showing his immense power and physical abilities to onlookers.
If we had to put Chongyue in the Just Some Guy spectrum, he’d had to be on his own little space as A Guy That Thinks You Too Can Be A Guy. He’s not Just Some Guy, he’s definitely A Guy and makes no secret about it (without revealing ALL that makes him A Guy), but he also believes that you, with enough effort, time, and support, can also become A Guy of his caliber, and that he’s nothing special, he just has 6521 hours in TF2 and that’s why he can rocket surf and land air shots with the Direct Hit with 100% accuracy, not because he’s exceptional necessarily.

It's cold. You can't feel your hands anymore, can you? There is the faint pressure of something, some sort of burning. Can you feel yourself getting eaten away? Water does not forgive, in any way that matters. It is vast, unavoidable. It can be pretty, alluring, but there is a deadliness under its surface. Is that not you, too? You pull people under, as many as you can, if they dare walk too close to your surface. I don't believe it is malevolent, but it isn't kind. You have not given them a choice, you have never given them a choice. It was always about what you needed, wasn’t it?

this is the compilation of what has been revealed so far, general arknights lore and some of additional thoughts, and i will link this on my carrd for info until we know more—

JP name: アルダシル
JP VA: Kawanishi Kengo
ENG name: Ardashir
Etymology: Persian in origin, with the meaning "righteous ruler," "one whose reign is based on honesty and justice" or "noble spirit". The name represents strength, integrity and leadership.
In-game: Presumed ancient Sargonian, which isn't common amongst the people of Talos-II.
Race: Sarkaz
Tribe/Subrace: Lich
Liches have a similar appearance to the Banshees, but with a serpentine tail and some of them lack horns. What sets them apart are their two unique traits: unimaginable space manipulation Arts and their apparent immortality. They store their souls inside a special phylactery, which is kept inside a void, hence killing them is nearly impossible as long as their threads are not destroyed, and their bodies will immediately turn into strings. Their mastery in space manipulation Arts allows them to perform teleportation around and control those spaces via their magical strings. Additionally, they even master an Arts called Exile which can literally erase one's existence immediately.
Origin: Claims to be a traveler from the free city of Kjersch.
In the quest with Karja it mentions that the free city of Kjersch was founded and had children of Kjeragandr, which in some way puts them as direct descendants of Kjerag. Which also gave me an assumption that he may not be native to Talos-II; taking into consideration that he is a Lich and he mentions a few companions that started their journey together. But I don't want to speculate too much before we know more.
Notable features: Beauty mark behind his left ear, Metal cuff that also covers the tip of only left ear (and very particular form of earrings, but I can't put my finger on what they remind me of), Marknigs on the right hand (so far potential meaning eludes me), Wraps own tail around the leg (I can only assume it may denote the distance or detachment from the people he is around)
Now I will start with random things and thoughts that grabbed my attention, and I will remove screenshots for now, as they may be too much of a direct spoiler compared to my written speculations.
So the main one, considering his race and arknights lore, as he's been addressing Endmin as "Lord". In original Arknights, Sarkaz people have a King, known as the Lord of Fiends, who has been chosen by the artifact Civilight Eterna (not gonna mention who created it, cause too many spoilers for original AK). So if Ardashir is calling Endmin "his last lord", then it implies that the current owner of the artifact is Endmin.
Also side note, if you are familiar with or played the original Arknights, you know EXACTLY who Endmin is at this point :')
Also back to my speculation, that Ardashir isn't native to Talos-II. Aside from the fact that he alludes to helping/knowing Endmin before it all started, in his monologue, he mentioned Terra prior to Talos-II. Only those in H.A.S. know more detailed and correct info bout Terra, majority of the people possess vague ideas bout it. So if someone recalls them with such clarity, it only can mean that he was a witness, he is familiar with Terra and was there during all of that.
There were two moments in the main quest, that emphasized his name. Which later was admitted to be older than ancient Sargonian. Then who tf he is, you may think, especially considering he does seem like a very powerful individual. My best bet is on the Lord of Liches, that came after Fremont. Whilst the old man is alive and kicking, my idea is that Ardashir is close to him in terms of power. He also speaks in a very authoritative way with Nefarith. Not to mention his overall antics - rather polite/official/noble way of speaking and how he moves and walks. And the fact that he can speak the language, as the last known person is Logos.
He can wield concentrated Æther, and reasons for that still elude me, but he may be the one who provided Nefarith with control over it too. Again, just a speculation, nothing to validate the claim yet.
There's some other thoughts, but they include his connection to Endmin and I would prefer to put them in a new post, as this one specifically I want to allocate to who Ardashir is.
edit: Something I forgot to add, that also stuck with me, cause it was such a fat and obvious reference to the original game— and all the crimes that Sanguinarch has committed.
You just CAN'T tell me at this point, that he didn't come directly from Terra.
