ânow.. if only i could actually do all the things she tried to teach me,â reyna replied with a soft chuckle. âdonât get me wrong, i can cook. but iâm nowhere near her level. iâm not sure i ever will be.â despite the hours upon hours that sheâd spent lurking in the kitchen with her grandma, there was still so much that she needed to learn. following a recipe could only get her so far, she still needed to pick up on all the subtle nuances of cooking that her grandma had developed over a lifetime. âmy sisters are actually pretty terrible in the kitchen, so someone had to pick up the slack.âÂ
âThatâs only half the battle,â Nat agreed around a laugh. âYou can only do the best you can, and Iâm sure your grandmother is glad that you picked up the slack in the first place. You couldâve said âscrew itâ and pretended not to be able to cook. If it were my family in that position, my brother would have done that. I donât think he has the same strong constitution that you do.â Nat wasnât sure what she would have done. Ideally, she would be interested in spending hours in the kitchen, especially with a woman like Reina. But her own grandmother had been particularly irritable and slow, making it so that any time spent with her was fairly unpleasant. So, it was a toss-up.
