So I decided to ask the guy I’ve had a crush on for the past year to formal. We both play basketball so I decided that I’d be cute to write “Formal?” on a ball, throw it to him, and ask him to be my date. This dude and I have a past. We liked eachother last year but he was too afraid to make a move. So we grew apart and stopped talking. Fast forward 5 months later, I reached out to him for advice about a certain issue at school because I felt like he was the only one I could really talk to and trust. In return for his “favor”🙄 he asked me for nudes. Saying that he had been wondering for the longest time what I had looked like naked and how attracted he was to me. After numerous times of denying his request he finally ended the conversation by saying “look you either send them or not, because I’m getting frustrated that you won’t send them and you keep teasing me” (when I really wasn’t btw). I sorta have a problem. I only like to see the good in people so I tend to ignore their flaws. That’s what happened in this situation. Even after what had happened I continued to like this boy and give him my heart and attention. Which was obviously a mistake. Back to my formal proposal, which was last Friday night, I decided I was going to ask him after his basketball game. I had worn my basketball uniform to match his, straightened my hair, I had done my makeup, and had my basketball ready to go. I sent my friend to tell him to meet her in front of our school pool after the game. As soon as the game ended I ran with the basketball to the spot in front of the pool and waited to throw the ball at him. After waiting for a couple minutes he finally came outside. My heart was beating so fast and I had forgotten how to breathe. I called out his name and said “catch!”. After catching the ball he began turning it around till he saw my messsge. He shyly smiled as he flexed the ball on his shoulder, He said “wow I can’t believe you surprised me like this, yeah sure”. After he said yes, we hugged, took a couple pictures and he kindly asked “Is this ball for me?” I replied to him “ya you can keep it! I got it for you anyways.” We nervously said our goodbyes, still shocked by what had happened, and parted our seperate ways. The guy I asked passed through the gym to get to the parking lot, but his basketball team decided to talk to him about what had happened. They saw the basketball I gave him, grabbed it and threw it at his back while throwing L’s at him. I didn’t personally see it but my friend had seen it on someone’s story before it had gotten deleted. They instantly wiped the smile off his face and he began to get really angry. Before you know it he became so enraged that he drop kicked the ball in the parking lot ruining the skin of the basketball and my message I had written to him. One of his friends went to get the ball and came running back to him saying “dude she bought you a ball what’s wrong with you!?”. All he had to say was “that sh*t was flat!!”... my friend had called me shortly after all this happened. So I decided to call it off and text him this...

“I could tell by your face that you looked surprised and I totally understand. I just wanted to go as friends. Your reaction said it all and it’s fine if you don’t want to go with me.”

He responded saying that he actually wanted to go with me but he had a “commitment” that night and wasn’t planning on going to formal. After he had said yes :( I knew it was complete bullshit but I didn’t want to believe the truth because I was in denial. I cried all Friday till Sunday night. I didn’t let myself cry today because I didn’t want him to think that he had that kind of power over me. Today he decided to text me. Letting me know that he was planning on going to formal. But with someone else of course. He said “I acted rudely and unfairly the other night but I mean like tbh we haven’t even talked for a year. And I was planning on asking someone else to formal :/ sorry I’m just trying to explain more” it hurt me to bad to respond nicely so instead I decided to just say “alright”. It wasn’t mean but it got the point across that I was upset and wanted no kind of relationship with him whatsoever.

Whats sad in all of this is that I have fallen for him and he crushed my heart because he couldn’t have a mind of his own. I guess only seeing the good in people won’t really get me anywhere in life.
