okay okay listen to me. i started talking about it in a server and now i keep thinking about it. christian/ex christian lucas. a boy raised christian losing all his faithâ unable to understand why, if a god truly existed, he would put him through so much. once upon a time if asked with âdo you believe in godâ he wouldâve answered with a small nod, hiding behind his mothers legâ and now, if asked, heâll barely entertain the question, saying âWhy should I? Heâs never once believed in me.â
(yapping below the cut . sorey)
lucasâs character certainly doesnât need any added layers of tragedy but i love him and thus i love when he hurts.
lucas still searches for god. he doesnât do it on purposeâ let it be known, he hates god. Thereâs no omnipotent fucker in the sky instilling morals in all of us, putting us in âgoodâ and âbadâ boxes to decide whether weâll be tortured for eternity or not, and heâs sure of it. And yet thereâs these little moments of heartacheâ where, just for a second, heâll say a small prayer in his head, begging for god to give him something. to reignite any faith still lying in the depths of lucasâs abdomen and give him something to live for again. On days where heâs at his worst heâll find himself staring at that god-awful, hideous, and ever-so gaudy porcelain statue of jesus and a lamb hinawa kept above the fireplace and in his mind heâll beg, please, god, give me something. I canât keep going without guidance.
God never hears him. God never gives him a sign. God doesnât give him any consolation. God is a being of love and yet he doesnât spare so much as a passing glance to Lucas, even with all the tragedy heâs endured.
Of course he doesnât, because heâs not real. God doesnât hear him, because god has no ears to hear. God is a superstition, a fairytale spread via word of mouth that gave people who feel lost something to keep wandering for.
And you know whatâ If God is real, heâs a total bitch! Lucas thinks so, anyway. If thereâs some omnipotent old bitch in the sky who can instil whatever he wishes upon the world, he couldâve saved Lucasâs family. But he didnât. He let them die, he took their souls away and left Lucas only with cold bodies and the memory of fingertips fading purple. He didnât even provide Lucas with the saving grace of killing him off too; at the very least letting him die alongside those he loves. No, heâs forced to walk the earth without the embrace of a mother or the camaraderie of a twin, his family halved within a matter of days.
If anything, he must be taunting him. only a few years later dangling the near-dead body of his brother just out of his reach, letting him feel a slither of hope after years of feeling nothing at all, only to let him die once again. What kind of cruel joke is this?
If Lucas was to be honestâ no jokes about god being a âreal bastard,â heâd put itâ He truly believes, within the bottom of his soul, a world where such mental tortures can be inflicted upon a mortal human is a world where there is no god. If god was ever real he has long since abandoned this world. The fruits of his creation have grown rotten beyond recognition.
There is no heaven, there is no hell, there is no god. There is only the world he walks upon, and the people that he walks alongside.
He wears a necklace with a golden cross pendant. Itâs a tad garish, a little too big, and far too brightâ Lucas certainly isnât the type to wear jewelry, especially not gold. But he wears it anyway.
It was Flintsâ. Flint doesnât remember where he had gotten it, but he explains to Lucas that he always felt it held importanceâ beyond being a symbol of god, or any of that garbageâ he felt it had been given to him by someone special, and thus he wished to do the same. He gave it to Lucas at 17 or so; a time where Flint had become a weaker man, his muscle fading, his memory growing lesser. Heâd began to do less, and thus, he didnât need something like it anymoreâ god has helped him enough, Flint thinks, itâs time he grants godsâ aid to his younginâ.
He places the necklace into Lucasâs hands, before closing Lucasâs palms togetherâ his sonsâ hands now bigger, stronger, though calloused and scarred, where his has began to age, his skin growing rougher, almost paper-like, his veins protruding more than they ever did beforeâ and he says, âHold onto it when things are hard. When youâre scared, or you feel hopeless, grab onto that crossâ God will hear you, and he will help you.â
Lucas never takes the necklace off, once given it by his father. And as his father instructs, in times of need, whether he be in danger, or in mental pain, or anything of the sortâ he places his hand around the cross and holds it tight.
But he doesnât think of God when he does this. No, god barely crosses his mind anymore. Rather, he reflects back to when Flint first gave him the necklace, wanting his son to be protected and always feel secure within his life. He thinks of when Hinawa once told him in his youth that sheâll fight off the nightmare monsters so he never has to be scared again; or when claus fought off a really scary animal (that he realizes only now was simply a dog) with a stick before turning to him and saying âyou donât need to cry, âcause Iâll always protect you!â He thinks of moments with strangers that solidified a different sort of faithâ whether it be a little talk with an old lady at the store, or when a group of young children offered to help him with his farming duties.
Lucasâs faithâ Lucasâs love, his drive to be good, his securityâ comes from people. There is no god, but the people within his life, even if theyâre not in it anymore, come pretty close. He has faith in people, not false prophets. He holds love for the people he knows, whether it be strangers or people he holds most dearest, not a being that exists only in manuscripts and prayers.

I hate Lucas Mother 3. I think about him alot and it is always in a âextremely lonely and sad man who wasnât ever able to recover from the trauma he endured throughout his developmental years because he never got to stop for a moment and look at himself in the mirrorâ way. I could think about him in a âfat little stupid baby Aww so cuteAwwâ way but I choose not to because I am actively malicious and want that guy #OBLITERATED
To get the initial thing out of the way that I do think Iâve spoken about before here but Iâm not sure to what extent (man i make alotta posts), I generally believe Lucas would grow into Flintsâ role in Tazmily. He would be the one who spearheads Tazmilyâs restoration post dragon-awakening, he would be the one who tries to work Tazmily back to what it once was (never getting quite there, but he keeps trying.) Due to taking up this role in the village, he takes on the responsibility of being the towns protectorâ Not unlike how Flint was the one immediately called upon when a fire broke out in Tazmily, Lucas would be who the people of Tazmily immediately come to when any danger or unusual circumstance comes there way.
You might think âwhere is Flint in all this?â but itâs important to remember the circumstances of the final fight between Lucas and The Masked Man. The nature of damage in this game is really context dependent, hence the âthrow lifenoodles at clausâ joke thatâs lingered in this fandom since the start of time LOL so bare with me here, but in the final fight, Flint is hit TWICE by PK Love which we know to be an immensly strong attack. The first hit heâs able to still talk and stand but the second is shown to have injured him near-fatally. âFlint suffered major damage. Flint couldnât stand up.â Combined that with Lucas, only after this point, being able to actually fight his brother back? I think that makes it very evident Flint is wounded beyond simple healing. I donât want to say he dies or anything, but I imagine him to live after this point with some form of disabilityâ Unable to move anywhere nearly as well as he did once before. I do think thatâs the natural conclusion to make from the final fight, that heâs been left permanently injured or altered in some way.
So, picture this with me. Lucas and his father living together in their cold, greyed home. It felt so vibrant before. But now itâs just them and the memories of what theyâve lost. Despite this, Lucas keeps going. He wakes up each morning after a small fight with his mind, heads to the kitchen, makes breakfast. He wakes up his dad, helps him out of bed. His dad curses him once or twice, âDaft bastard, I donât need you doing any of this for me,â but Lucas helps him anyway, taking one of his dads arms over his shoulder to help him walk to the living room, lowering him to the sofa and bringing him his breakfast.
Flint hates it. He hates it so much, to have the son he neglected amidst his depression and mourning and let so many people chastise (did he really let people do it? maybe not, but i feel heâd feel this way. He recalls times he heard citizens calling his child a wimp, or crybaby, only for him to turn a blind eye, and he curses himself,) now take care of him. He doesnât deserve this. Lucasâs love for others has lead him to neglect who he is as a personâ his personality, his dreams, his futureâ to take care of his father. Every day feels painful. He wishes so badly that he could turn back time and make things different. Heâs watching his little boy waste away in favor of taking care of everyone else, putting his truest selfâ the frail little boy Flint remembers so fondlyâ to the back of his mind.
Lucas is more than⌠content, to take care of his father. Heâs all he has, now, and heâll take a shadow of his former father before he loses him any day of the week. Equally, it hurts. At some point, that he canât quite pinpoint, his father became a reminder of all that heâs lost. All his failures, all his âif I had just done this differently, things would be differentââ. He blames himself for it allâ His mother losing her life, the torture his brother endured and his eventual passing, and now his fatherâs disability. He looks at his dad and, though heâd never say it, sees the pain that he caused. Taking care of his father feels like the bare minimum; a daily apology to his father for how much he failed. Equally, itâs a tetherâ Lucas is profoundly miserable, and damn it, so, so alone. But he canât let himself slip fully into the depths of his depression because he has to take care of his father. He has to still be there. He has someone to be there for.
