You can (and should) partially blame @namehart for this. It was her amazing and heartbreaking artwork that I ended up headcanoning. And that headcanon kinda just…went.

“The Nightmare Begins”

Now I haven’t done a complete re-watch of Merlin in years and I usually avoid episodes like this but…..

Morgana’s growing powers becoming too much to handle and her collapsing mentally because NO ONE save Gwen will nurture/support her for real…..

I mean, Uther would have her burned. There is no doubt in my mind. Gaius, kindly but cowardly Gaius, drugs and now actively gaslights her. Merlin has a moment with her where she BEGS him to reassure her that it’s magic, that she is not imagining this and he……says nothing, only that he wishes that he COULD say something.

And when Merlin goes to Kilgarra for help, the Dragon sneeringly refers to her as “the witch” and insists that she must be sacrificed.

Because foresight & all. But Morgana could have been saved. She wouldn’t have betrayed Merlin’s secret, her saving Mordred is proof of that.

Does Morgana later do “evil”, even “unforgivable” things? Yes.

But you know who taught her that? The characters we are supposed to root for. Some even out of a warped sense of compassion.

And I include Morgause in that crowd.

I watched Merlin just because of Katie. And It was really terrible show that reminded me of Holocaust.. Morgana was the only character I could relate to but she got brutally unfair end.. She deserved much more, now I'm so depressed and angry
