I have this dumb pet peeve of when people discuss disney fairies and they go into talents and how some of them are so dumb and how they would hate some of these talents. My crazy take is I don’t care what talent I get. Give me salt-shifting-talent or entryway-polishing-talent or even serving-talent. Either way I still get a place to live, clothes to wear, food to eat, and free healthcare. The fairies also don’t just work. They have so many parties and activities, and they take breaks to have fun, and they listen to stories. So yeah, under those circumstances I wouldn’t mind having one of the less desirable talents.
Another thing that people tend to overlook is that the fairies don’t think and act like humans. When they announce their talent or discover their talent, it’s something that brings them the most joy. Salt-shifting-talents love to shift salt, they think it’s the best talent ever. They’re not ever going to think it’s dumb. Deep down they feel bad for any fairy who isn’t a salt-shifting-talent. That’s just how never fairies think. It doesn’t matter if the majority of people think that this is a menial job, if it’s a fairies talent then it brings them absolute joy to perform.
I feel like people conflate talents to jobs cause in a way, talents aren’t jobs. They’re more like something the fairy enjoys that they can contribute to the community. Their needs aren’t based on what that talent is or how skilled they are. Everyone (except the queen) is treated equally. I would hate to have a cleaning job for a variety of reasons. But I probably wouldn’t mind it that much if all my needs were met. And not just the bare minimum, but like all my needs are comfortably met.
Now if there’s a discussion that should be had, it’s the fairies unhealthy relationship they have with working. There’s so many stories where the fairy can’t practice their talent for health reasons and it’s treated like the worst thing to happen to them. Just rest Myka, your eyesight would have been fixed in a week or two. No need to endanger you and Bess like that!
