We’re all simply nothing in the vastness of the universe.

Oh hello I didn’t see you there my dear reader. Forgive for the somewhat dramatic opening and allow me to ramble here. It has come to my attention that this is the last time you will hear from me, but do not fret my friend, for I am but one story told. Doesn’t it excite you though? A place will countless things to do, places to be, and billions of individuals to interact with; all of this is but a speck in the grand scheme of things where trillions of other specks exist as well. We’re born in a time too late to explore the Earth, but also too early to explore the universe. We live in an in-between time; where before we’re ready to voyage the stars we first have to know the rules of the trip.

To me, an interesting concept would be that of spacecraft propulsion. Current systems are that of rocket propulsion. Using combustible materials are we able to create enough lift to beat Earth’s gravity. But rocket propulsion systems go only so far and need fuel. For interstellar travel solar sails are a probable mechanism however they are still underdeveloped.

the story regarding the central dogma as follows:

According to the anime the “angel” Lilith is the propagator of the current form of human life. She resides in an inactive state, infinitely bleeding the primordial ooze known as “LCL” which is believed to instigate evolution. She is within what’s known in the anime as the Central Dogma, the most secured and secretive place on the the planet. Where after playing around with the mysteries of Lilith does almost everyone also die.

This week’s topic was about the earth and how we have to conserve it or we’ll all die.

Smoking...Smoking....Smoking???

To be honest I’ve never really known much about smoking other than the reason they had to put warnings on cigarette packets. 

I think it goes like this: 

Someone who’d been smoking died and their family members blamed their death on cigarettes. They took the manufacturer to court and the manufacturer claimed that the death was not caused by cigarettes and after some scientific research in really was in fact the tobacco in the cigarettes that killed the person. After the case was settled, the tobacco companies started putting warnings on the their packets to avoid repeated cases.

WOOO ALCOHOL, DRINKS, PARTYYYY. TUGS TUGS TUGS.

Today’s discussion was about almost every young adult’s favorite pastime-

 Yes you guessed it! Alcohol!

But seriously the effects of alcohol intoxication can cause sickness at least and possible death at worst. This knowledge has been drilled into my mind since the day I had two digits in my age. One of the professions of my father is a motorcycle safety instructor and of the things he’d tell me is that alcohol intoxication and a motor vehicle NEVER mix (he even has a framed portrait of that saying at home). While training his students he makes them put on a pair of goggles aptly named “Fatal Vision”, with these goggles it simulates the vision impairment that one experiences while intoxicated, and has them walk around with them. After a few minutes of the goggles on, dizziness and nausea are common effects. Now these are a pair of goggles that only cause vision impairment, how much more dangerous could they be with the other effects like delay decision making and numbed senses? I don’t think anyone would like to have a motorist under the influence.

Funny story though. To be honest although it’s helpful to be aware of these kinds of motorists and danger they impose on themselves and others, my dad never really had to keep drilling me about it.

Since last week’s blog topic was about nanotechnology, today’s discussion will be my thoughts about food, college students and food, and more food.

As a college student with a strict commuting budget I think I have a few things to say about how I consume food. I’d seen a documentary once about Americans and their problem with weight. According to the documentary, american are fat because of the distribution of food to its price ratio. Simply, many restaurant chains price their food in a way that by buying greater quantities of food at once will save the consumer more money than by them buying the same amount sparingly and in smaller portions. But by doing so they sacrifice the balance of their nutritional intake by consuming copious amounts of food at once.

Earlier today we’d talked about nanotechnology. I’ve heard about nanotechnology before and did research prior to today’s discussion found these things called Carbon Nanotubes. The gif above is the framework for these Carbon Nanotubes. These tubes or threads are in my opinion what could be the most revolutionary material known to man to date. Extremely durable (around 200X stronger than steel), lightweight, and have amazing thermal, optical, electrical conductive capability.

On this week’s (or rather last week) episode of Sci10 we had particularly interesting discussions on technology and its applications with regard to national development. Further explanation and discussion was given to our nation’s dependence on the technological advancements of other countries. Also another thought that came into mind was the question of how far are humans willing to go in the interest and pursuit of science? What moral limits are we willing to cross for the sake of advancement? What if the conditions we create today force us to commit acts seen today and inhumane; tomorrow will they be the norm?

This week we’d learned about several things. The most interesting for me being the “actual” scientific process. Rather than the commonly known method (observation -> hypothesize -> predict data -> experiment -> gather data) my grade school education was a lie the idea is that the scientific process is iterative. Iterative meaning that “it circles upon itself”, wherein not discoveries are not limited to a single experiment but over the course of time, different people and different circumstances. What really struck me was possible application of these concepts for my future use. The ideas presented specifically the Analysis Feedback where several different peer, colleague, or publication sources may be tapped for the development of a system. For the first time in awhile, I was legitimately fascinated by what I was learning about, due to its possible application over multiple fields and and the logic behind the framework. Also the technological discussion today (1/29/2016) was fun but I felt lacked depth and I’ve learned that the Philippines sucks at developing tech.
