Honestly, since it isn't changed from canon, I don't really consider that a spoiler. I kept the two canon character deaths in the modern story, Lucy and Clay. Part of that was that I wanted to stick pretty closely to canon for the first three games I cover. Another part is the impact both of those deaths have on Desmond and the rest of the modern times crew because of the relationships that existed there.

The fic has reached 250k! Yey! I'm only just at the feild trip to New York City in AC3. This thing is going to be way to fucking big, what the hell.

But, because I do not have the mental capacity for a snippet at the moment, I thought I would give you guys a peak at the spreadsheet I'm using to track the fic's statistics. Parts of it are empty still, mainly because me and my beta reader @jyndroka are gonna start editing only once the story itself is done because if I start that while actively writing I'm gonna stop writing, and we don't want that. Also, it gives us the time to work on his fic (it's a Charmed kid-fic and really cool, if any of you are into that fandom).

Imagining them engaged but not telling anyone

not because it’s a secret but just because they are private people and rumours about preferential treatment already run rampant around the Vat

And in the lead up to the events of PHM they decide to get married, both because they don’t know what will happen next and because they don’t want to have to testify against each other (not that Eva had to end up worrying about that)

The world is ending and they already spent so much of their life being quiet, so they find no point in not hyphenating their last names

They only end up finding out after the launch, when Eva Stratt-Grace is charged for environmental terrorism and countless other charges

The whole world only gets to know through the project Hail Mary memorial

The names of all the people who have their lives for the sake of the world engraved on a plaque including Ryland Stratt-Grace

Tim going undercover to infiltrate this non-League of Assassins organization of totally different assassins

Except he does so by tracking down what he thinks is an easy-in via the supposed leader’s son, who he thinks is sitting pretty in New York as a sleeper agent for something

And so Desmond gets a new neighbor or maybe a coworker at the place he bartends at that acts just. SO sus. But hes also really funny in a way that natches Desmond’s own dry and sarcastic humor, so despite being absolutely suspicious, he slowly allows this new guy to befriend him. It’s a very gradual process, like a stray cat that eventually deigns to allow a persistent human to ‘adopt’ it.

Tim spends his time trying to convince Desmond that Tim is a fellow operative without actually saying so —subtly, at first, because that is the name of the game, and then in increasingly obvious overtures until it gets to the point that Tim is yelling it from the rooftops. Because —

Because Desmond, on the other side of this, is resolutely ignoring all the signs that his new buddy Tim is from the same cult he was raised in and subsequently ran away from at age sixteen. Because he actually likes Tim, and he has decided that he would like to keep him. He’s never really had a friend before, see. And, since they both apparently come from such similar, humble insane beginnings, Desmond figures his best bet at friendship is this absolute weirdo that has the strange ability to make Desmond legitimate laugh. But first, Desmond has to break him away from the cult.

And to do that, Desmond is spending all his time trying to convince Tim to leave the cult mentality behind. Things like mentioning therapy off-handedly, getting really into self help books and meditation as a ‘new interest’ that he then imparts knowledge of onto Tim. Leaving books titled like “How to Recognize Cult Mentality (And Leave it Behind)” just lying around for Tim to happen upon. He starts — unsubtly. Desmond has spent his entire childhood forced to be subtle, and as an adult he has come into the preference of being blunt.

Eventually, he ends up getting a therapist for himself, just with the intention of convincing Tim to, but then realizes six months later that he has become really involved in his own sessions and accidentally helped himself onto his own mental-health journey, learning how to recover and move on from things like his toxic relationship with his parents.

Anyway, Tim eventually comes to the not-incorrect conclusion that Desmond is NOT a sleeper agent of this assassin Brotherhood, but instead is a rogue agent who tried to — and appears to have successfully - jump ship and leave.

Which, kudos to him. Tim is really glad for his friend, who Tim has become very attached to and cares a lot about, because Tim is incapable of forging meaningful bonds, especially with friends who somehow convinced Tim, and Bat, to attend therapy. (Therapy that is working???)

However, if Tim could connect the dots of Desmond’s relationship with the brotherhood, who is to say that someone else couldn’t? Desmond has succeeded so far, but what’s to say that this brotherhood won’t eventually manage to hunt his friend down and tie up loose ends?

Tim has to protect his friend. And also find another way to infiltrate the brotherhood, because he DOES actually still have a mission, here.

So Tim starts keeping an eye out for any nefarious suspicious people trying to tail his pal. And for a while there is nothing, until one of his tracking program flags an attempt to pull Desmond’s nonexistent records from the government database, having picked up a lead due to Desmond’s history of payments to his therapist.

Tim follows this trail to a company called Abstergo, and. Well. That opens up a whole new can of worms. Including a case of serial kidnappings, apparently??? And, apparently, this shady as fuck pharmaceutical company has been conducting its own investigation into the very same brotherhood of assassins that Tim cane here to infiltrate in the first place???

There is, Tim is starting to suspect, a lot more going on here than the Bats initially expected.

And then his friend Desmond gets kidnapped, and. Listen.

Historically, Tim does not react very well when the people he cares about are taken from him.

Previously, all Assassin's Creed games and tie-in media have been synned into the Assassin's Creed - All Media Types Metatag, without distinct fandom tags for individual games. With the recent Changes to Fandom Metatag Wrangling Guidelines, we're now able to break out individual tags for different Assassin's Creed games.

In summary: we're creating new fandom subtags that are specific to each Assassin's game! These fandom tags will cover both the games and associated tie-in media, and will allow for users to more easily filter for fanworks by game, while still allowing filtering for multiple games and excluding other crossovers.
