His fingers even scooped up one of the cookies from his individual plate set aside from the main snack tray - and he chomped into it once after setting down his teacup. Oh, how he loved how the warmth would travel throughout his body - like a blanket covering every inch of him. He didn't necessarily have to have his coat off, it laying creased over the chair behind his back, but he did. Sometimes it felt nice enough to ditch it -- considering how much he preferred to be wearing it constantly. It easily kept the heat in, even if it had a slightly thin leather material. But of course, that was to keep wearing it year-around.

The flavor of the cookie tasted delicious as ever -- the creamy peanut butter taste settling on his tastebuds. He swirled it a bit around his mouth, savoring it, before ultimately chewing and swallowing the bite. He could hear the birds chirp from nearby -- having cracked open the window some. Even the vibrations of children's laughter floated in. Incredibly pleasant day within Twilight Town.

He shifted lightly within his seat as he heard the sounds float out of her mouth, slowly absorbing them. It had seemed like the correct approach, hadn't it? To ease things? ..Had he meant it. Perhaps a portion of it -- regret having been a hard emotion to come by nowadays, especially with all that he had planned. Sacrifices had to be made ; even from within. True regret would only slow him down, and he couldn't have that. Despite having a couple of regrets stubbornly clinging for life within the depths of his Heart, thankfully, they mostly never surfaced.

The eyes of Eraqus from within his sketchbook nearby could tell a different story altogether.

A little chuckle slipped out of his mouth, as she mentioned just that, a seemingly long-forgotten subject from his thoughts just minutes ago. Of darkness. "Of course -- but then you'd have to receive 'forgiveness' from each and every keyblade wielder." But.. that'd be quite tiring, wouldn't it? "Still ... my status doesn't erase the need for regret, especially seeing how I surround myself with darkness altogether,'' he said shortly after, an abrupt changed tone easily heard. Of a more heavy, serious one - despite the light one before it. He was like a walking contradiction. A keyblade of Light stored away within his very being, while darkness threaded itself within him as well.

"It's only natural that I try to understand darkness more through and through with passing moment. I am a master - but there's always more to learn."

"Your friends ..." his voice trailed off, having recalled the previous events prior to all of this. A sigh left him, as he leaned back into his chair. He cast his hues elsewhere, to study something within the environment. "Yes - it had been unnecessary, but I have my reasons. The Organization is but the core of my plans. I have every right to protect what's mine." As if each and every member was but his property. Such a .. dissonance from empathy -- even if he had plenty of it within himself. It had just twisted over the years. Another nibble into his treat, once again, savoring the taste. Strangely enjoying the small things -- though he knew they wouldn't - couldn't -- last.

He tilted his head slightly, curiosity shining through. "I could only assume they are alright by this point ..?" A spark, born out of his empathetic ways, yet it only was because of the Guardians' usefulness more than anything else.

Algea allowed the man the time to speak. She even allowed herself to consider his words. She even entertained another sip from her tea cup but decided against eating any of the pastries; why eat what tasted only as ash to her darkened tongue? If he was in a mood searching for absolution, he would simply have to forgive her for not eating them. She let out an amused huff at the idea; if he sought forgiveness, he'd need to forgive a monster for her transgressions?

Her mind seemed to enjoy devising bizarre ways to amuse itself. Monsters were not to be forgiven. Least of all one such as her.

She turned her gaze back out to the streets painted by an idyllic sunset. A few birds flew past the window, and she found herself wondering just how far they were able to fly. Could they fly between worlds, she wondered, or were they bound to the worlds of their births? She closed her eyes for a beat, listening to the familiar trams and trains as they moved. She was sure the Body would avoid this place like the plague. She... didn't have it in her to care. Fate guided her movement, and it was her role to react as she was needed to.

When she opened her eyes, he had finished speaking. He did carry such human regrets, didn't he? Things that kept him up at night, plans that hadn't gone quite to plan in either their execution or aftermath... how thoroughly curious. She hadn't thought of him as the kind to voice those kinds of things. Then again, who would believe her? Would she tell anyone in the first place? He wouldn't know either way. Most of them were out for blood; saying the architect of their misery felt sorry wouldn't change that. Still, if true understanding and as close to forgiveness as he could reach was his motive, it was one he either thoroughly considered first or felt compelled to do by his heart, quickly and without any prior preparations.

"Whether your regret is genuine matters little to me," Algea found her response, "and I am not the first monster to be created by another's hands. Even if you think of yourself as the most to blame for my... nativity, I am not the first dark creature you have wrought into existence. Do you regret the birth of Vanitas or your Heartless? Do you seek their forgiveness?"

She let that fall where it lay. The suffering brought by both of them was great and terrible (the Heartless more than Vanitas, but Vanitas's brand of suffering was personal, deeper where the Heartless's was wide reaching in its malice, so perhaps they were more equal than first met the eye there) and so close to the cog of Xehanort that she would take him as being directly responsible for their actions. The Heartless was a monster, same as her, but Vanitas was... something else. So perfectly enshrouded by Darkness and so willing to do whatever it took for the war to happen; even limping back to the hand that abandoned it a decade ago. Had she her Original's curiosity, she would have investigated closer, sought the secret within the purity of that abyss.

She wasn't the original, however, and the Heartless couldn't afford distractions.

Yet, for a moment, she considered taking that course of action. Replacing Vanitas as a vessel was out of the question — the Truth sought by what remained of Shelby Baker lay beyond the upcoming war, and she wouldn't perish for a cause she didn't particularly care for. The Body would willingly dance among the chaos of battle, but she would remain ambivalent until called upon. No doubt her friends would want her to stake her dark existence fighting the Body, consequences be damned. If that was her fate, perhaps she would follow. She'd rather let the rabid dog that remained in the Original's Body attempt her revenge and lose to them, however.

Yet... could she not find another vessel easily enough? Perhaps she could see what it would take to create a replica of Vanitas, so she could take the original for herself... Then she could dive into that queer Darkness that covered his entire Heart, discover the cause the melancholy and maudlin that lay just beneath the surface...

What favor would Xehanort request in payment? What secret betrayal would she have to enact? The Body would make any such transaction difficult...

She sighed. Did it matter to her primary and current secondary objectives? No. When she had less on her plate, she could put more on to it. For now she had enough to keep from fading. That was enough.

"As for understanding Darkness, there's little I can provide you than what you more than likely already know. It is a force that seeks to exist on its own terms, is startling easy to manipulate if you know how, and is always willing to make a Faustian deal if you can ask the right questions and offer it the right things. Of myself, I am different from my base kin because my Original threw open the door into her Heart willingly, allowing Darkness in. I was granted a Keyblade after two cleaved into the Heart I carry. It takes a Heart to wield a keyblade, after all. Beyond that, you'd need to be specific with your inquiries."

She took a deep breath of the scents of Twilight Town. The calm scent of worn bricks and distant gasoline being burned for trams and train. The faint scent of salt and sun kissed sand from the distant beach. Sweet scents from cafes and the faint, yet delightful, scent of children determined to fight the sunset even as it cast its shadows, preluding night...

How terribly nostalgic. Any ghosts this place carried seemed indifferent to her. Yet, she was less than a spirit so it ultimately made sense. She was a shadow without its host. If that body ever truly returned, she couldn't say.

"As for bringing me here, I have no forgiveness to give. It is... pleasant to return here. More than I had anticipated. My... friends are engaged in either journeys or training, leaving me to wander the places they cannot. I don't imagine they will be 'alright' until they can push this behind them, and even then I doubt they will be fully alright for a long time..."

Another wistful sigh, for she had seen each of their doubts and fears reflected in their actions. The apprehension of what has yet to come to pass. Yet also the hopes that things would become 'normal' after it was all said and done. She knew better, but never said it. They all were different. Not a one would be able to return to the lives they led. Perhaps that was for the best. While they adjusted to normalcy, she could fade. Her presence brought painful reminders of what was lost, after all.

"If healing can ever truly be attained, it will be done without you."
