A flower in the forest of my thoughts -

His scarred hands carried me through summer into autumn,

Smile sweet and words honeyed, he made promises of forever -

Starry eyed and grateful for a soft place to land,

I followed behind, hardly noticing the sky above,

A roiling cauldron of gray

Now winter is upon us,

Demanding her pound of flesh

And so we make our sacrifices -

Blood chilled and bodies stiff,

we cast off that which we can no longer carry,

making sacrifices to sun and moon alike,

hopes and dreams tumbling m through holes in our pockets

like stars streaking through the sky

Until there is

only

one

left -

Glowing like an ember in the palm of my hand,b

With my spirit singing each to each -

I’d name my every shadow,

crawl through hell and back

If I could drink down your light again and again
