My take on the Spider-Man purrs.
(FURRY CONFIRMED âźď¸âźď¸)
The first time Miles noticed it was when he was with Ganke and Hailey. The three of them were hanging out at his house, chilling, chatting, and playing games on his couch. The atmosphere was perfect, it was cold enough night to have blankets surrounding them, a successful day as Spider-Man with little to no injuries, and junk food surrounding them. A teenagerâs definition of a self-care day. Their stomachs full of his Momâs food and curled up on the couch, eyes slowly closing.
Ganke kept drawling on and on about a new sci-fi movie he watched, rating it a 7/10, talking about the special effects and what not. Hailey laid her head on his shoulder, her hands absentmindedly playing with his own (his heart was pounding from the amount of physical contact. He is smitten.) while she was slowly falling asleep and Ganke whose back was leaning on his other shoulder, his legs dangling off the end of the couch. He rarely gets few calm moments like these. It felt really nice.
ââŚMiles.â A hand shook him away and he hummed, rubbing his eyes with the palms to push away the feeling to keep his eyes closed.
âDid you hear that?â Ganke asks softly, sitting up alert, his eyes glancing around the room.
âHear what?â Miles asks, his attention gained. He slowly sat up, feeling Hailey shift beside him.
She lets out a hum of her own before signing with a yawn, âWhatâs wrong?â
âGanke said he heard something.â Miles responds. His spider-sense didnât go off. So they werenât in any imminent danger. Was it the heater?
âBefore I fell asleep I felt something rumbling.â Hailey signed, her brows furrowed in her own confusion, sitting up more properly.
âRumbling?â Miles signs back, a frown appearing on his face.
âYeah, I felt it too,â Ganke confirms before glancing around. âWho knows, maybe it was just your neighbors.â He gives them both a reassuring smile though his confusion was still eminent on his face.
âYeahâŚâ Miles nods before leaning back on the couch. âYeah, that sounds right.â
The second time he noticed it was when he was alone in his room.
He had just recently changed the sheets of his bedroom, washing his favorite ones which was soft and perfect for the colder weathers. He had matching pillow cases and blankets to go with it as well. He was looking forward to it after a tiring day, he deserves a good nap.
He practically pranced around to his room when he yanked the warm blanket from the drying machine, jumping onto his bed, and successfully throwing the blanket on top of him. He almost felt like he was five-years-old again when his Mom and Dad would throw some of the freshly out of the dryer clothes onto him. Miles smiled contently, balling up the blanket into his fist as he tugged it up to his chin, hugging a pillow tightly to his chest for maximum comfort.
Miles smiled, letting out a content sigh as he closed his eyes. âThis makes everything worth it.â He mumbles softly to himself.
As he feels the grip of sleeping slowly taking over his mind and then he feels it.
A rumbling feeling at the back of his throat.
He pats his chest gently a few times to try and get it out but nothing happened.
The feeling hasnât gone away.
It didnât hurt. So his life isnât in imminent dangerâŚright?
It wasâŚalmost calming. The back of his head feels all fuzzy and it feels as though his bones are melting into jelly, he feels warm and content and it seems as though this rumbling feeling is helping that.
He immediately snaps up and sits up from his bed forcing out a cough and slapping himself on the back.
That seemed to have done the trick. The feeling is gone but, so is the buzz in the back of his head.
âWell..that was weird.â He comments to himself. âMaybe I can try to nap later.â He sighs, swinging his legs over the edge of his bed to look at his suit. âOr⌠I can ask Pete about this later.â He decides to himself, standing up and quickly snatching the suit off the back of his chair.
âOwâŚâ Miles furiously rubs at his head as he perched himself on a rooftop. Some D-Grade robber slammed a crowbar to the back of his head and it hurt like a bitch. Heâs mostly just frustrated that he allowed himself to get hit by that guy.
âHey!â Peterâs voice was heard from a distance, making the young Spider perk up. He lifted his head from his hands to see Peter quickly jump down next to him.
âAre you okay? What happened?â Peter asks quickly, kneeling down next to him.
âOh, no no, Iâm all goodâŚI just got hit with a crowbar.â Miles quickly shakes off his mentorâs concern and stands up to further prove his point.
âOh! Oh okay, good just making sure.â Peter laughs somewhat awkwardly, dusting off his knees before placing his hands on his hips.
âHey, Pete,â Miles clears his throat awkwardly, swinging his hands by his sides. âSay uhâŚhave you ever had this weird feeling likeâŚat the back of your throat?â
âLike, uhâŚwhen youâre sick?â Peter asks with a laugh before snapping his head towards Miles. âAre you sick?â
âNo, no no no,â Miles quickly shook his head before sighing, pausing to move his hands along with his words. âLikeâŚit feels like-like IâŚI donât knowâŚrumbling?â His voice getting higher with each word, a slight attempt to try and see if Peter will understand.
âLikeâŚwhen youâre attacking?â Peter questions, his own voice going higher. He tilted his head ever so slightly, lenses flickering in confusion.
âNoâŚâ Miles huffs softly, clicking his tongue out of frustration. He immediately saw Peter deflate before he backtracked, standing up straighter to send a smile his way. âYou know whatâŚit was probably a one-time thing. It should be fine.â
âAlrightâŚif you say so.â Peter reluctantly lays off. He cleared his throat as well before looking up at the sky, it was getting dark. What time is it again? It was almost five, but it is closer to winter time, so it makes sense as to why the times are all weird. Peter paused, before he sniffed the air a few times and finally putting two and two together.
âHm?â Miles hums softly, feeling something wet drip onto his head. He slaps a hand over his shoulder before looking up at the sky.
Another drop came, then another one, and then another one. Perfect timing for it to start raining.
âYou should probably get home-â Peter starts to say before a buzz came at the back of their heads.
A loud screech was heard from the streets as multiple cars raced across. Gunshots being fired at each other, missing and spraying onto the sidewalks, and almost hitting walking civilians.
âI will. But, letâs stop them first.â Miles states with a soft smile, jumping off the rooftop to jump into action.
âOf course.â There was a small chuckle from Peter, as he quickly followed his Mentee and the two swung through.
âAww, man.â The teen suddenly found himself laying in a pool of water. He stopped the criminals successfully but at what cost?
The feeling of his skin-tight suit somehow became even more skin-tight on him. It was an extremely uncomfortable feeling, he wonât lie. Especially with the whole, sensitive sense and all that.
âYou alright there?â Peter bites back a laugh, offering a hand up to the teen.
âYeahâŚjust-â Miles takes his hand, standing up with a groan. âAw man.â He holds his arms out limply, looking over himself as water dripped from his hands and arms.
Peter lets out a laugh, smacking his shoulder lightly. âGet used to more rainy days. These can be the worst.â Peter recalled some of his first days as Spider-Man, trying to not slip on the wooden floors as he snuck back into his room as he desperately tried to not wake up Aunt May.
âYeahâŚâ The constant rain pattering on him did not make him feel better at all. Against his better judgement, he took a sniff of his suit and cringed dramatically under his mask. âAw, man!â Miles cringed.
âWanna clean up at my place? Itâs a lot closer andâŚwe can clean up that suit.â Peter offers with a laugh, starting to climb up the building.
âYeahâŚyeah, thatâs probably a good idea. My mom is still out.â Miles nodded along, quickly following his mentor up and over the rooftops and to his apartment.
When they arrived, Peter slammed opened the window before lazily reaching inside. He fumbled around before grabbing a towel off of his desk, shaking it open to lay it down on the ground. âJust so clean-up would be easier.â Peter groans as he slips in, standing in the front, watching as the water dripped off his body.
Miles followed suit. Slipping in himself before standing behind his mentor, somewhat having a little trouble to close the window without stepping on the hard-wood floor. It reminded him of playing the floor is lava when he was a lot younger.
âAlrightâŚhereâs the plan. I know I have a change of clothes in the bathroom,â Peter sighs, pointing towards the door. âSoâŚweâll shimmy our way over there, Iâll get changed, then Iâll run over to my room to grab you a spare change of clothing.â
âAlrightâŚsounds good. Shouldnât be too hard.â Miles huffs out softly, looking from his feet to the door. Simple enough.
âJust, try to keep up.â Peter teases, as he starts to slowly move his feet.
âHey, I got more rhythm than you man.â Miles scoffs, shuffling his feet close behind and they were making good cover.
Until someone decided to trip.
The two let out a small shout as they tumbled onto the ground, cringing as their wet-suits squeaked on the floor.
âThat was your fault! Tha-that was you!â Miles laughed and immediately pointed his finger, attempting to use the wall as leverage to try and stand up properly.
âNo it wasnât!â Peter retaliates, pushing down Milesâ arm making him fall again but allowing him to stand up.
âPete!â Miles laughs, deciding to wrap his arms around his legs to once again knock him down.
âYâknow what?!â Peter finally gains his footing. Jumping onto the ceiling with a sigh before looking over the mess. âLetâs just abandon the towel. Thereâs not much point in it anymore.â.
âSorry, man.â Miles laughs, clearly truly unapologetically but still it felt right to say it.
âMaybe you do have better rhythm than me.â Peter mumbles softly, jumping down from his spot before opening the bathroom door. âCâmon, get in you stinky spider.â
âDudeâŚdonât ever call me that again.â
âGet changed first you stink bug.â
Miles sigh contentedly as he slams his back against the cushion of the couch. Peter gave him some of his softest clothes that he had to offer, it was a really corny t-shirt of some science joke and a pair of sweatpants that he says he hasnât worn in a long time. It didnât matter to him, he was just grateful that he was finally out of that suffocating suit.
âYou know, I havenât really touched my movies in a while. I sort of forgot what I actually have.â Peter informs him as he rounded the couch, placing down Milesâ cup of Hot Chocolate onto the table in front of them.
âMm, any crappy sci-fi movie should do. I love making fun of the bad cgi.â Miles suggests, scooting downwards and letting his legs hand off of the edge of the couch to allow room for Peter to sit.
âI think I have a few of themâŚthough most of them might be hard to understand because they have quite literally no plot.â Peter chuckles, opening a box that was placed next to the TV before pulling out a few stacks of DVD and Blu-Rays. âHowâŚabout this one?â He randomly runs his fingers along the spine of the cases before whipping out a random one.
Yeah, that already seems trashy.
âHave you already seen that one?â Miles questions.
âEhâŚmaybe.â Peter smiles.
Miles just sighed fondly, watching as the older Spider puts on the movie and turns off the lights. Taking his spot next to the teen and laying his arm along the length of the upper cushions.
â¨As the movie started to play, everything felt so calming. The rain provided more ambience as the soft sounds of the TV played on. It was loud enough to be heard but not too loud as to where the neighbors might complain about it.
It was extremely calming.
As the movie continued, the two nerds gave their commentary. Complaining about the plot, characters, and the obvious bad cgi.
âThat was copying bicentennial man!â Miles points at the screen accusingly, as if they would actually hear him.
âIs it a b-grade movie.â Peter teases, almost sing-song.
âNo one can ever top, Robin Williams.â Miles practically scoffs, putting his finger down.
âThatâs something I can agree with.â Peter grins.
Miles sighs softly, turning his head towards the ceiling to relieve some of the tension from keeping it in a slightly strained position for so long. He took a deep breath. This is nice. They havenât had many moments like these in a while. Mostly because of the whole FEAST situation and Miles starting out his senior year in college and all that, stress levels are at a all time high and Spider-manning isnât exactly making it easier.
But being curled up on the couch next to someone that he can trust, his stomach full of warm chocolate, and the ambience providing calming comfort.
Everything just felt nice.
Nice enough, for him to close his eyes.
The fuzzy feeling at the back of his head returned and the slow, reverberating, rumbling feeling came starting from the lower part of his chest then to the back of throat.
Oh God. Heâs doing it again. Miles snapped up immediately, swinging his feet round to sit properly on the couch before awkwardly coughing. âUh, yes, yes, hi Peter!â He desperately tried to redirect the situation, clearing his throat and taking a sip from his cup.
âSo Iâm not the only one! Thank God!â Peter exclaims happily, slapping his hands over Milesâ shoulders.
âUhâŚwhat?â Miles questions softly.
âYou just purred,â Peter laughs as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
âWhat?! W-We were bitten by spiders! Not cats! Weâre not Cat-Men!â Miles moves his hands in disbelief before pausing dramatically. âHey! I asked about this earlier!â He was this close to stomping on the ground.
âWhatâŚâ Peter looked off to the side with a soft down-turn of his lips before lighting up once more, responding with a laugh. âThat was what you were talking about earlier?!â
âSorry! Sorry,â He wiped a fake tear from his eye before continuing. âApparently itâs a wolf spider thing, itâs used for mating and, according to the internet when theyâre happy to, âshake things up.ââ He ended with quotation marks.
âOh manâŚI totally shouldâve looked this up.â Miles softly reprimanded himself, rubbing a hand across his face.
âDonât beat yourself up about this. Itâs not something that someone else would have thought to look up considering we can climb on walls.â Peter lays a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
âItâs always something new.â Miles sighs, relaxing once again, leaning back on the cushions of the couch.
âHey, no judging here. You wonât believe how many times I almost got caught in front of May or how many times MJ has teased me about it.â Peter follows suit, once again laying his arm along the length of the upper cushions of the chair.
âI think I already did it in front of Ganke and Hailey.â Miles admits shyly. âWe were all hanging out and about to pass out and I guess it just happened. Ganke noticed it but we just thought it was my neighbors or something.â
âAll you need to worry about is when youâre in public or in front of strangers. Because other than that, purr away.â Peter dramatically wipes his hand in the air, as if he was showing something magical.
âSeriously, dude. You gotta find better ways to word things.â Miles groans.
âWhy? You arenât rocking with your new found purr buddy?â Peter doesnât lent up, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and pulling him into his side.
âAs of right now, hell no.â Miles emphasizes, poking at Peterâs side, making the older man laugh at the contact.
They both didnât pull away however, choosing to stay in their huddled up position on the couch. At first Miles was hesitant, awkward, and tensed up. He didnât know whether Peter was okay with him cuddling up on his side like this. The two of them have hugged before sure, but mostly it was just fist bumps, awkward high-fives, and a casual arm around the shoulder every once in a while. Itâs not as if heâs complaining though, the warm cuddling of someone who he really trusted, looked up to, and dare he say loved was more comforting than Peter would ever realize.
A buzz grew at the back of his head. Nothing yelled danger. It felt calming, making his mind melt away any sort of doubt or depreciating thoughts he had.
Before he knew it, he started to purr once more. It was extremely subtle at first, almost hard to tell that he was even doing it. But as he got more comfortable his purrs grew more louder, slowly taking over the room.
Peter tightened his grip comfortingly, resting his chin on top of his head breathing in slowly. A smile growing on his face. âYeahâŚthis is pretty adorable.â
âCâmon man.â Miles nuzzled his face into his chest further, his voice holding no bite as sleep slowly started to ebb at his mind.
âSorry, sorry,â Peter rubs his shoulder gently with a small laugh. âHereâŚâ He readjusted their positions to get more comfortable and to avoid the neck and back pain later on. Laying down along the length of the couch and allowing the younger spider to lay on top of him, wrapping an arm around his head and the other gently wrapping around his torso. Miles smiled contently, a small noise indicating his happiness as he nuzzled into his shoulder and wrapping his arms around Peterâs upper torso to have as much contact as possible.
âHavenât done this in a while.â Peter mumbles sleepily. A slow reverberating feeling growing from his own chest. âNot that Iâm complaining.â
âGood.â Miles smiled. The feeling of his mentor joining him melted his bones to jelly.
The movie was long ended as the two of them got well-deserved and rare sleep. On a rainy evening with a new-found, albeit weird, side-effects that only the two of them will ever understand.
They were okay with that.
((i NEED more platonic things of these two))
