Why I ride
To cheer, “YAY, ME!” at the top of every climb. To travel, by my own power, over trails I wouldn’t see from a faster car, train, or plane. To share stories from these travels. To be strong and healthy.
Yeparoo! One thing I'll add to the list: Start out riding a set time period instead of aiming for mileage goal. Ride for, say, 30 minutes. Then gradually ride for longer durations -- 1 hour, 1:30 hours, 2 hours, and longer if you want to. As we get more fit, we're able to cover more distance in that time frame. Ride for time, the miles will come.

Rolling neighborhood route in Maplewood and South Orange, New Jersey. Looking forward to getting my clipless pedals on the new bike. Platform pedals are harder to ride than I remember!

No ride for the weary...
Not much rest last night. Likely would fall asleep on the bike today. Heading over to #HilltopBikes for Tim’s TT bike to get a minor tweak. Want to look at water bottle cages for #Beastie bike while I’m there :-)
April 2015: Return to Sandy Hook TT - this time to cheer for Tim’s race. Go, Tim!

July 4, 2015: Gotta love the top of a climb!
(flashback) May 2014: Not all workouts are sunny days w/blue skies. This one wrapped up w/pouring rain and lightening. Cleared up finally to load bikes back on the car.
(flashback) March 2014: First ever bike race and I earned a podium spot with a medal. Windy, cold day at the Jersey shore. Oh, yeah! Sandy Hook Time Trial 2014.
August 2015: First weekend w/my new new Fuze. Gorgeous riding in Connecticut.
August 2015: Meet my new bike :-) Out for a Sunday ride in Connecticut.Â

March 10, 2013: Picked a route. Rode the route!
Top photo was before setting out on my ride this afternoon (I put my helmet on after the pic). Bottom photo shows my 11-mile round-trip, out-and-back route from the parking lot of the Meyersville Inn parking lot in Gillette, NJ to Basking Ridge, NJ. I picked a route with a section of dirt/gravel road that I knew had washed-out potholes. The sooner I work on bike handling skills the better :) Temps were in the mid 40sF with only a bit of wind on the return ride.
My fingers stayed warm in windstopper full-finger gloves. I wore running capri pants over my cycling shorts. Â Wool socks kept my feet warm (no shoe covers today). Yay! warm knees and feet! For core warmth, I wore my softshell cycling jacket over one layer of long-sleeve polypro shirt (zipped off the jacket arms and carried them in back pocket of now-vest).Â
Best part of the day: Talking out loud during the ride pretending to be a color-commentator for the ride. Something along the lines of: "She sees ragged pavement ahead! Oh, yeah! Let's go get some of that! Just like cobblestones in Roubaix!"Â
p.s. my hand-me-down sunglasses are not so great. I'm starting to look for a better pair tomorrow.Â
Hello, pretty bike with your spiffy, bright-yellow handlebar tape :-)Â This is my bike. I love my bike. I love how I feel when I'm out riding my bike. I'm training now so I can enter my first cyclocross race this fall/winter (here's what the racing looks likehttp://youtu.be/6UIMK426E-g)Â Oh, yeah! (gulp!)
