Will you still love me

When the morning comes,

When I get mad, jealous

And feel insecure?

Will you still be there,

When the world gets cruel,

When our dreams fail,

And our lives get tough?

Will you still remember,

The memories we have,

The times we've shared

Through ups and downs?

Will you still care,

If I tend to forget

Those simple things,

When we grow old?

Will you still have patience,

Time and ears

To listen to my rants,

Stories all day?

How far will you go?

How long will it take?

And how deep will it go?

To prove that it is true.

It is not the material things

That you can give.

But the simple things you can do.

As I walk through the door.

You're not there to make me smile,

To make me laugh anymore.

Life seems quiet without you,

You were far more than a pet.

You were a family member, a friend,

A loving soul I'll never forget.

It will take time to heal

For the silence to go away.

You were such a great companion,

Constant, loyal and true.

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country.

But it, too seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closer to me, but alas, they would have none of it.

And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize; if I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family.
