Separating this silly thought from the musings of the earlier post, but it'd be very funny if the very-unresolved-until-now matter of Yoshiki's mortality eventually separating him and 'Hikaru' were to be resolved because 'Hikaru' is actually in charge of the rebirth cycle.

If I may be greedy, there is one more thing that I would love to see from Subverting Classic Tropes, The Manga. And that's the subversion of the classical resolution to the mortal & immortal relationship that I have also talked about before.

In cases like these, it's usually the immortal who becomes human, losing its immortality in the process. Now, we know that MMR loves monsters for being exactly that, and hates defanging and anthropomorphizing them. So, in a relationship where this lack of balance would cause Yoshiki and 'Hikaru' to be separated in what would only be the blink of an eye for the latter, leaving the immortal one behind alone and grieving, the logical conclusion would be having the mortal to ascend to immortality.

There are ways. As discussed in that previous post, the effects of a human completely mixing with something from the other side aren't well known. Satou's lack of aging (and hair pigmentation) has yet to be explained beyond being obviously supernatural. And also, of course, having a partner who is a god ruling over life and death could help to cheat on the rebirth cycle itself.

With so many seeds planted from way earlier in the story, we still need a resolution to "I can always be with you now", and I'm waiting with batted breath.

I'd also settle for 'Hikaru' looking for Yoshiki's soul after Yoshiki's natural death to reincarnate him (and then stay by his side), and for Yoshiki to either keep his memories all along, or recover them after a point in time. I suppose that 'Hikaru' having control of Hikaru's body down to the cellular level according to one of MMR's Q&A, means that he also has the potential to do things such as turning its physical age back? Much to think about.

#but making yoshiki's reincarnation inherit his past memories wouldn't be condemnatory to this newborn person?#from the standpoint the combination of body and soul are essential for creating both identity and memories. hmm #maybe they will reach a consensus prolonging yoshiki's life span in a bram stoker's dracula way..#idk this topic is an endless source of anxiety I can see the author avoiding touching it or left it ambiguous #like “yeah now yoshiki will live longer due mixing! but for how long? *suspense*”#the summer hikaru died #I can see yoshiki's last wish to stay by 'hikaru's side as goop and soul forever #and 'hikaru' erasing his memories and returning to his element except the promise he must keep this precious soul forever safe
