Lando taps the hard edge of his phone case against his forehead. He shouldn’t have trusted Stella, and now he feels like an idiot. It’s no excuse, but they’ve had many last minute schedule changes recently, so this morning, it didn’t seem out of the ordinary.  If the shoot was actually canceled, he figured Max or Danny would call him later, and they’d rehash the whole plan. The possibility that it wasn’t canceled didn’t occur to him.

Stella is wearing his usual uniform, grey slacks and a Joyride track jacket. His hands are shoved into his front pockets, and a wide smile contorts the lines of his face. More menacing than joyful.  “Good, you’re here. We need to talk.” Stella’s voice feels like chewing on nails and Max wishes he could just mute the guy until he was done speaking.  Instead he offers a terse, “About?” “Norris called in sick. Stomach trouble,” Stella clarifies.  His tone has a smug quality, and it sparks the anger that had been building in Max.  “Of course he did,” he spits before he can stop himself.  Fuck.

Charles’ mouth feels dry. He barely registers that Max hasn’t paused to check the tension the way he normally does as he restrains his hands behind his back. He uncurls his fingers from the fists he didn’t even realize he’d formed.  Max swiftly circles his wrists in a tight coil and joins the ends in a knot between his palms. The hemp feels bulky and his fingers can’t lay comfortably.  Charles breathes through it, trying his best not to tense. Max is giving him exactly what he asked for. He should take it in stride and feel good, ecstatic even, with the way things have progressed. For once, he’s actually being treated like a true submissive.

“I’m still mad at you,” Liam murmurs, letting his eyes drift closed, ignoring the ache starting to bloom in his hips. Enjoying the feeling of being together like this, catching a few hours alone even when it seems impossible. He feels the smile against his skin at the remark as he continues petting through damp curls.  “Not my fault,” Arvid replies, his breath evening out.  Liam cracks an eye open. “Well it’s not mine.”  “It is to.” 

Watching them now, Max realizes how good Lewis and Charles look together. A natural pairing, he bets Andrea would have said.  The absence of knowing expands until it becomes its own monster. A smear of possibility that he can’t sift through easily. Lewis’ hands on him. Charles going pliant beneath his touch. Charles pushed open in ways that Max can’t bear to imagine.  He hates that he doesn’t know.

“There is something else that happened last night I need to tell you about.” Max lowers the menu. “Lando tried to kiss me.” The mental image comes to Charles with visceral detail. Max driving, Lando in the passenger seat wounded and vulnerable, both awash in the neon of the dash lights as Lando gravitates toward the one good and stable thing in his life.

The way you are so right for this! They are telling us a story. Both of these have really interesting themes of change and uncertainty. But 100% everyone around them is just shaking their collective heads and looking the other direction to save themselves from second hand embarrassment. Baby alpha is not smooth at all.

Hii, yess! Welcome fellow believer. I am definitely with you on the jealousy trope, and I snuck a bit of that into Growing Pains. I think with the added alpha x omega element that would be even more spicy and the tension would be delicious. I am sure I'm going to get to writing that at some point, but trying to be good and finish up wips.

Though that trope would be especially relevant today after Isack was blowing vcarb kisses on main. Could be really good fuel for the jealousy fire if we're being honest! Once again please enjoy my favorite current picture of Liam and Arvid under the cut.
